Good history on Harry’s maturation; Stops at engagement to Megan Markel

I listened in 2024, after Harry became a father, left Royal duties and moved to Canada. This books end many years prior. However, it chronicles well the time it covers, and likely explained to me the things that happened since. The narrator was good except when she tried to do voices, particularly Harry, and her attempts at Megan’s American voice was poor. Had she just read on through, it would have been fine. An interesting autobiography all around.

Awesome attitude

I love Leslie Jones, and I loved “Leslie F*ing Jones”, but totally understand that neither may be your cup of tea. She can be perceived as loud, offensive, foul-mouthed, etc. If that bothers you, don’t get this book (or any other with the f-word in the title). She is real and raw and passionate. Her story is honest, has ups and downs, and reflects the real person who worked hard to become the undeniable celebrity we think we know. She has a lot of good wisdom to share. Thank you for writing this book, Leslie!

Interesting and well-told history of a family

Anderson Cooper compassionately but bluntly describes generations of people who could no more understand our lives than the rest of us could really understand theirs. There’s a reason his voice is famous: It is very easy to listen to. It is also written in a way that makes it easier to keep straight which Vanderbilt’s were which, and how connected to whomever else, which is very difficult to do in a multigenerational narrative.

But wait - There’s More!!

An excellent piece on so many levels. Special kudos to the narrator, a man who performs women’s voices without being diminutive or insulting. I listened because the book was assigned to my high-schooler’s class, & look forward to a lifetime of discussions! Oddly, though, the written edition has an Epilogue regarding a specific event with Scythe Lucifer, which is conspicuously absent from this audiobook. I recommend you read it.

Worth the listen on a long drive

This was a good story, mostly interesting because of it being fiction based on some actual historical events and real people (“real” elements are unrelated to each other IRL). It helped me stay awake on a long drive. The mediocre & unnecessary “love triangle” subplot didn’t interfere with the main story much. Narration was very good, for this difficult many-characters book. I think the narration made it better than reading the book would have been for me. But, overall, a solid Audible choice.

Why would anyone want to ban this?

I kept listening for whatever element caused this book to be targeted for a book ban, and never did figure that out. It’s a fun, quirky story about normal kids who do normal kid things in a normal place. I have no problem with elementary students reading this, and feel a little sad for kids whose parents would deny them the experience..

A good binge

I needed something not-too-heavy for some long listening over a few short days. This novel was perfect. The narration was lovely. The characters, likeable and familiar. You know “something else is going on” from the beginning, but it is revealed slowly. The book kept my interest right through the end.

Beautiful

The narrator on this was perfect. She told the story with the simple clarity of the author, Corrie, a woman who just did things without knowing she was extraordinary. I hope I could be as clear an confident as the ten Boom family under such terrifying circumstances, but am fortunate not to know for sure.
