On the last night of 1937, 25-year-old Katey Kontent is in a second-rate Greenwich Village jazz bar when Tinker Grey, a handsome banker, happens to sit down at the neighboring table. This chance encounter and its startling consequences propel Katey on a year-long journey into the upper echelons of New York society - where she will have little to rely upon other than a bracing wit and her own brand of cool nerve.

Most well written book I’ve listened to this year
Revisado: 04-19-18
Absolutely beautiful prose.
Every line, every description is a well thought out work of art. Each description of the landscape or the characters is carefully crafted with beautiful, funny, and truthful metaphors that are so original that they are remarkable in their own right. Bravo to Mr Towles for meeting and exceeding my expectations. The narrator did a great job of drawing me into the story and characters . Her rhythm and timing was spot on, her voice was a pleasure to listen to.
I recommend this book to anyone who wants to know what good writing sounds like.
Purposeful, careful, insightfully descriptive.
The characters are all courageous, likable, genuine, and a little tragic, each fighting their own battles with brave faces, cocktails, coattails, and all the glitz and grit New York in the 30’s can dole out.

Historia
In 1518, in a small town in Alsace, Frau Troffea began dancing and didn't stop. She danced until she was carried away six days later, and soon 34 more villagers joined her. Then more. In a month more than 400 people had been stricken by the mysterious dancing plague. In late-19th-century England an eccentric gentleman founded the No Nose Club in his gracious townhome - a social club for those who had lost their noses, and other body parts, to the plague of syphilis for which there was then no cure.

Smart, informative, and funny.
Revisado: 03-02-18
The narrator did an excellent job reading this book. Her timing was perfect and her delivery of the sarcastic quips and anecdotes made it so funny and amusing to listen to the horrors of plagues, illnesses, and the so called cures.
It was a fascinating guide through history from the plagues’ point of you. It was so interesting to see how illnesses impacted society and how certain societies dealt with each illness. It bespoke much of how humanity either fails the sick or comes together and unites for the common good.
Jennifer Wright has the knowledge and wit to make learning about the history of plagues both interesting and funny. She possesses an intelligent humor that keeps listeners hanging on every new, disease filled, germ encrusted jaunt through history. She makes the gross stuff funny.
A complete surprise that a book with this title could be so much fun.
Bravo to the Narrator and the Author!

Historia
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

Revisado: 12-02-17
Andy Weir does it again. A main character who is smart, quick thinking, gritty and real.
Dialogue is hard to write, but Mr Weir uses great dialogue to create a genuine personality for each character. Jazz tells us the story with humor and normal speech so the technical jargon goes down easy. This book is pure delight. The narrator is truly gifted and one of the best I have listened to.
Bravo! Thanks to all involved in creating a very entertaining audiobook.

Historia
Near the end of World War II, thousands of Allied ex-POWs were abandoned to wander the war-torn Eastern Front. With no food, shelter, or supplies, they were an army of dying men. The Red Army had pushed the Nazis out of Russia. As they advanced across Poland, the prison camps of the Third Reich were discovered and liberated. In defiance of humanity, the freed Allied prisoners were discarded without aid.

Sci fi nerds - this book is for you!
Revisado: 05-18-17
A very interesting premise. You can't help but love Bob- and all the other Bobs! This book examines several issues of technology and the soul or rather, the human essence that demands social justice, seeks the mysteries of the universe, grapples with the Prime Directive, and desires to "boldly go where no one has gone before"
I love this narrator! He distinguishes every character and adds a genuine tone to the dialogue.
Great entertainment. Looking forward to the next book!

Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed. Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name.

Excellent. You won't want to stop listening
Revisado: 04-07-17
Timely. Insightful. Gripping. I'm seeing the world through the characters eyes. In an atmosphere of racial tension, is the beauty and love that binds a family, a boy and a girl, an entire community, and ultimately, the nation. The narrator is excellent. In fact, I think this book is probably more enjoyable as an audio so you can get the true speech patterns and nuances of different racial and social dialects within an English-speaking society. It just makes it richer to hear it spoken so well, bringing the characters to life, I seldom give a book five stars but I feel this is a must read as it shows both sides of a very important issue in the world today.
Bravo! To the author and the audio production team. This is a gem.

Beautifully written
Revisado: 01-25-17
Beginning was a little confusing for me. But the words were so beautifully written that I kept on listening. An amazing and insightful story. It is heavy. It's dark. It's hopeful. It's light. It's thoughtful. It's very well done.
Not your typical story but a beautiful read nonetheless.
