Author does not have enough life experience to write this book.
Revisado: 04-23-25
disliked the huge amount of cursing. Appears writer has too shallow of a vocabulary to write description of the setting and to draw into the character's life. I don't believe there were any aromas, background life sounds - besides one or two dull lines. bland, bland bland. Author needs to live another 10+ years before she has enough experience to try and write a book like this.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Boring. I could not believe how boring a Pulitzer Prize nominee author could be.
Revisado: 04-01-25
Boring. My emotions -and any of my senses- were totally unafected while reading this book. Did not hold my interest at all. I would have enjoyed watching one of my old t.v. soaps (All My Children or General Hospital) more than reading this book and that's not saying much for the book. Totally disappointed. The author's writing was mediocre.

Historical accuracy enhances this book
Revisado: 03-27-25
Enjoyed. The King never seemed to learn how to get along with his sons. With having so many sons, the betrayal between sons and father grew a tad monotonous.

Historia
Twenty-four-year-old Saeris Fane is good at keeping secrets. No one knows about the strange powers she possesses or the fact that she has been picking pockets and stealing from the Undying Queen's reservoirs for as long as she can remember. But a secret is like a knot. Sooner or later, it is bound to come undone. When Saeris comes face-to-face with Death himself, she inadvertently reopens a gateway between realms and is transported to a land of ice and snow. The Fae have always been the stuff of myth, of legend, of nightmares… but it turns out they're real.

Historia
In the late 1930s, 16-year-old Billy Parham captures a she-wolf that has been marauding his family's ranch. But instead of killing it, he decides to take it back to the mountains of Mexico. With that crossing he begins an arduous and often dreamlike journey into a country where men meet ghosts and violence strikes as suddenly as heat lightning - a world where there is no order "save that which death has put there".

Not a good story but a great story by a gifted author. Listened to audible book but will buy hardback copy so I may enjoy again.

good story about a young man coming to age in the harsh, southern section of New Mexico around the time of the U.S. Depression. Deeply layered story within stories that brings forth an enriched portrait of a young man's life. A few Mexican dialogues that I did not understand except from their contextual use. Eeasily found those dialogues translated into English on the author's web site. Using the Spanish Mexican language authenticated the setting. An excellent that will transcend generations to come.

Historia
Set in the vibrant fourteenth century of Chaucer and the Black Death, the story features knights fighting in battle, serfs struggling in poverty, and the magnificent Plantagenets—Edward III, the Black Prince, and Richard II—who rule despotically over a court rotten with intrigue. Within this era of danger and romance, John of Gaunt, the king’s son, falls passionately in love with the already-married Katherine. Their affair persists through decades of war, adultery, murder, loneliness, and redemption.

Historia
It is the summer of 1862 and the Northern army is threatening to capture Richmond, the Confederate capital. Bloodied but victorious at the battles of Ball's Bluff and Seven Pines, Nate suddenly finds himself accused of being a Yankee spy. Proving his innocence and finding the real spy will require courage and endurance rarely seen even in the brutal fog of war. Failure could mean the fall of Richmond and a career-ending defeat for Robert E. Lee.

Conceited, unattainable, and downright delicious, renowned Michelin-starred chef Ambrose Casablancas has one passion in life: food. Women are a distraction, and he doesn’t do those. Especially Cal Litvin, his baby sister’s best friend. Her entire existence is a complication; she’s awkward, eccentric, infuriating… And, much to his chagrin, hotter than his kitchen. Ambrose has a lot on his plate: a new restaurant to open, a multi-million-dollar property deal to execute, and a violent stalker to tame. Then Cal shows up at his doorstep.
