Historia
Why we think it’s a great listen: Some books are meant to be read; others are meant to be heard – Water for Elephants falls into the second group, and is one of the best examples we have of how a powerful performance enhances a great story. Nonagenarian Jacob Jankowski reflects back on his wild and wondrous days with a circus. It's the Depression Era and Jacob, finding himself parentless and penniless, joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth.

Spectacular!
Revisado: 07-31-21
I absolutely loved this book. Even though I watched the movie prior to it, listening to the whole story was like hearing it all for the first time. I was on the edge of my seat, and it took me only three days to swallow this marvelous story. It told us about beauty and glamor of the roaring 20s and that behind that glamorous facade hid ugliness, destruction, and abuse. Amidst it all, love to people and animals wins the battle over hate, prejudice, and arrogance. I can't say enough good things about this book. You just have to read it!

Enjoyable but Not Believable
Revisado: 06-14-21
I couldn't put this book down once I started it. It was very interesting, captivating, and performance was great. However, it seemed like the author tried too hard to push the plot forward, stretching it to the point where it was very hard to believe that something like this could actually take place. But it is certainly a good weekend read.

Historia
Inextricably linked with the fatwa called against its author in the wake of the novel’s publication, The Satanic Verses is, beyond that, a rich showcase for Salman Rushdie’s comic sensibilities, cultural observations, and unparalleled mastery of language. The book begins with two Indians plummeting from the sky after the explosion of their airliner, and proceeds through a series of metamorphoses, dreams and revelations.

Very Complicated
Revisado: 06-06-21
Omg! If complexity can be measured on the scale from 1 to 10, it's a 10! I actually had to Google what this book was about to understand it. I would recommend it to anyone who likes James Joyce or Thomas Mann. If you look for an easy weekend read, this is not it!

Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

Definitely Worth Reading
Revisado: 06-01-21
This book is definitely a page turner. However, I thought there were some gaps in the story that made it less believable. For instance, why Alina had to wait 95 years to reveal the truth of her past. Why was she only writing letters in the age of computers and internet? Why Tomasz sacrificed his life to give his beloved to another man?

What a wonderful book that was! It is written marvelously in the style that is easy to read and follow yet at the same time it bears some poetic elements. The book is full of rich culture, magic, mysticism, and humor. Ghost Bride is one of my favorites now!

Very Interesting Idea
Revisado: 04-25-21
I think the setting of alternative America is simply genius. It is interesting and believable at the same time. Indeed what the United States would look like if Indians defeated the Europeans? If it lost the war with Mexico? If tzar Nicholas II and his family would escape the communists?
Even though I craved more character descriptions and some elaboration on the plot, I enjoyed this read.

Mixed Feelings
Revisado: 04-16-21
I have mixed feeling about this book. There are people who love it and there are who hate it. Yet, I wanted to develop an unbiased take on this read.
Pluses:
It was very interesting and captivating to take a peek at the lives of the most powerful and famous people of the planet and to know that after all, they are not so different from all of us. They go through the same struggles, heartbreak, loss, and addiction struggles. There is no they and us. We are all in it together.
The part about Beau Biden was very difficult to read yet it seemed like it was one of the most sincere passages of the book. Hence, very strong and emotional.
The love that holds Biden family together is very touching and commending. It is absolutely amazing to see how much his father loves his son despite his past alcohol, drug, and sexual vices. The love of his father is ever forgiving and ever lasting. The love that Melissa Cohen displayed and her fight for Hunter's life and sobriety is remarkable and no less than heroic. I believe that love is the true beauty of this memoir.
The language is simple, down to earth and easy to follow. It makes you want to read this book from start to finish without ever putting it down
Minuses:
Politics. Of course, one must expect the left-wing motifs in the book by Hunter Biden. Still, when the author uses derogatory terms when referring to his political rivals, it makes him sound immature. I believe respect for one's opponent is a sign of integrity and maturity, while calling them names or saying F* you is childish.
Some confessions sounded more like excuses for inappropriate and destructive behavior rather than solid explanation.
Even though this book let us on a lot of secrets we previously did not know about, it still leaves a lot of questions unanswered.
Overall, the book was interesting, well-written and included heart-wrenging confessions about addiction, loss, and love . However, after everything said and done, I still do not know who Hunter Biden truly is and whether he is a positive or negative figure in the American history… One thing, I can say for sure-- he is definitely human.

Good Read Good Writing Style
Revisado: 04-13-21
I found this read to be really enjoyable. The writer employs a beautiful style that combines simplicity and sophistication. At the beginning, the novel seemed a little slow paced to me. And even though the ending was a little bit predictable, it was still nice to witness things work out for the characters the way they did.

Now considered a classic in the field, this remarkable book was the first to fully explore the mystery of life between lives. Journey of Souls presents the first-hand accounts of 29 people placed in a "superconscious" state of awareness using Dr. Michael Newton's groundbreaking techniques. This unique approach allows Dr. Newton to reach his subjects' hidden memories of life in the spirit world after physical death.

Is there really such thing as a lucky charm? The hero of Nicholas Sparks's new novel believes he's found one in the form of a photograph of a smiling woman he's never met, but who he comes to believe holds the key to his destiny. The chain of events that leads to him possessing the photograph and finding the woman pictured in it is the stuff of love stories only a master such as Sparks can write.
