Historia
In the lockdown ward of a psychiatric hospital, Dr. Nadine Lavoie is in her element. She has the tools to help people, and she has the desire: Healing broken families is what she lives for. But Nadine doesn’t want to look too closely at her own past because there are whole chunks of her life that are black holes. It takes all her willpower to tamp down her recurrent claustrophobia, and her daughter, Lisa, is a runaway who has been on the streets for seven years. When a distraught woman, Heather Simeon, is brought into the Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit after a suicide attempt, Nadine gently coaxes her story out of her - and learns of some troubling parallels to her own life.

Slow moving
Revisado: 09-17-21
I thought the subject matter was interesting, but the story was too slow moving for me. It did not hold my attention long enough to even finish. I am almost two hours in and nothing has gripped me enough to hold on and find out what happens.
The narrator was not for me either. Her voice was too monotone and only contributed to my disengagement.

Too slow moving for me
Revisado: 08-30-21
I though this book was boring and did not keep me engaged. Although I liked the characters, Story line was all over the place. I finished it waiting to hear the conclusion only to be let down. I thought the whole book was based off of this one major component and when author addressed it, it was at the very end of the book and I felt like it was just thrown there. I was disappointed. Didn’t totally hate it, but not a fan.

Historia
Leigh Collier has worked hard to build what looks like a normal life. She has a good job as a defense attorney, a daughter doing well in school, and even her divorce is relatively civilized - her life is just as unremarkable as she’d always hoped it would be. But Leigh’s ordinary life masks a childhood that was far from average...a childhood tarnished by secrets, broken by betrayal, and finally torn apart by a devastating act of violence.

Couldn’t stop listening!
Revisado: 08-06-21
I never write reviews, but this book was great! Read by one of my favorite narrators. Highly suggest… however be warned there is sensitive subject matter such as drug abuse and sexual situations that may make some feel uncomfortable. It did wrench my guts at some parts, however these are real life issues that many face and I feel she told the characters stories respectfully. Highly recommend. Suspenseful book that kept me entertained. Next purchase will be from this author!

Historia
Fresh from a brief stay at a psych hospital, reporter Camille Preaker faces a troubling assignment: She must return to her tiny hometown to cover the murders of two preteen girls. For years, Camille has hardly spoken to her neurotic, hypochondriac mother or to the half-sister she barely knows: a beautiful 13-year-old with an eerie grip on the town. Now, installed in her old bedroom in her family's Victorian mansion, Camille finds herself identifying with the young victims - a bit too strongly.
