Historia
Listener beware: Kevin D. Williamson - the lively, literary firebrand from National Review who was too hot for The Atlantic to handle - comes to bury democracy, not to praise it. With electrifying honesty and spirit, Williamson takes a flamethrower to mob politics, the “beast with many heads” that haunts social media and what currently passes for real life. It’s destroying our capacity for individualism and dragging us down “the Road to Smurfdom, the place where the deracinated demos of the Twitter age finds itself feeling small and blue.”

Fantastic book; wish it was read by Williamson
Revisado: 11-21-20
Kevin D Williamson’s writing was, as always, insightful and intelligent. Simultaneously harsh, eloquent, witty and brash. Touches on very deep important topics, while remaining immensely entertaining. Highly recommended to anyone interested in politics, culture, and society, regardless of their priors.
The performance was good in its own right, but as a frequent listener to Williamson’s podcast with Charles C.W. Cooke, Mad Dogs and Englishmen, it didn’t sound quite right hearing Williamson’s words read in this voice. Williamson’s voice and dry witty delivery is perfect for his material, and Graybill just does not deliver it to the same effect.

Historia
Only once in the last 250,000 years have humans stumbled upon a way to lift ourselves out of the endless cycle of poverty, hunger, and war that defines most of history. If democracy, individualism, and the free market were humankind’s destiny, they should have appeared and taken hold a bit earlier in the evolutionary record. The emergence of freedom and prosperity was nothing short of a miracle.

Fantastic analysis of our political milieu
Revisado: 06-08-18
Jonah Goldberg breaks down the state of politics wonderfully. He gives the history and context showing why America is such a fantastic “miracle”. He goes in to the ideas of the Founding Fathers and how they set up a system that was supposed to defend against populist ideals, and why that should be protected. He presents a pure ideal of conservatism, not an ideal that is perverted by the current state of affairs, as so many do. I’m sure he does not relish is the animosity he receives in the GOP, as well as the left, but I believe that is what makes this such a great work. He does not fall in to step with the rhetoric of the right, he makes an argument against me ch of the right while he is simultaneously making an argument against much of the left.
I have enjoyed Jonah Goldberg on National review with his insightful articles, and I have enjoyed him on but Twitter with his fantastic dogs (and commentary)
