Historia
Longbourn estate in Hertfordshire, home of the Bennet family, is entailed. Armed with this unfortunate knowledge, the females of the family have long lived with the threat of eviction from their beloved home should Mr. Bennet pass away before his time. When the unthinkable happens, the Bennet ladies prepare to leave their home as the heir arrives to take control of his inheritance. Salvation comes, however, by the most surprising of news: Mrs. Bennet is with child.

Inconstant narration
Revisado: 03-26-25
The narration was loud and soft to the point where I had to constantly adjust it or I had to have the loud parts too loud so I could hear the soft parts.
The story line was good but the best compared to other P & P take offs. I would recommend it with these caveats,

I loved this book!
Revisado: 10-31-22
I need to go back and review some of the Maisie Dobbs books I read years ago, but I think that this is my favorite one of all. Maisie has become a much more complete person, in her personal life, in her work, and in her relationships. I have no hesitation in recommending all the books in the Maisie Dobbs series that have to do with WW 2. They are not merely “mystery” books. I cried, I laughed, and I learned ever so much about the British involvement in the war, and some of the amazing British people of all sorts whose stories are so well told by Ms. Winspear.

Outstanding!
Revisado: 08-20-22
After a few years break from Maisie Dobbs novels, I started listening again at the beginning of the WW 2 books, and have not been able to stop listening!! As much as I did enjoy many of the earlier books, I have found these more compelling. Firstly, the author has done an amazing job at maturing Maisie and the other regular characters. Secondly, while the earlier books dealt with both Masie’s profession and the aftermath of WW 1, I felt like there were gaps at time, quite likely because we no longer have the personal recounts like we have of WW 2, and because Maisie was younger. This latest series dealt both with Masie’s profession and melded that with both major events of the war and personal events in the lives of people. And, in “The Consequences of Fear” there is also a connection back to WW 1 that adds much color.
I think this book has been my favorite so far- but try to “read” them in order because it really is a whole story!! And ENJOY!

Better every time…..
Revisado: 07-12-22
Having followed the Maisie Dobbs books from the beginning, and then having a couple years break, I have to say I was not at all disappointed with The American Agent. The writing was superb, and who cannot love Orlagh Cassidy’s narration?? This story that combined the heartbreak of World War II, and it’s painful impact on the women either through what happened to the men, or directly on themselves, is truly tragic. But Ms. Winspear writes with tenderness and compassion, and it is well worth the read.

Historia
Spending her thirtieth birthday alone is not what dating columnist Cleo Wilder wanted, but she plans a solo retreat―at the insistence of her boss―in the name of re-energizing herself and adding a new perspective to her column. The remote Irish island she’s booked is a far cry from London, but at least it’s a chance to hunker down in a luxury cabin and indulge in some self-care while she figures out the next steps in her love life and her career.

Revisado: 03-18-22
This third novel of Josie Silver is absolutely as enjoyable as her first two. I especially like the narrators of these books. They strike just the right tone and make the stories come alive. I will have to listen to them all again to decide if I have a favorite!!

It is also the tale of Captain Alex Randall, her protector, who aches to possess her. Terrible narration!
Revisado: 02-09-22
I’ve been reading this book for over 30 years and was excited to find it on Audible. But I almost quit after listening for 10 minutes!! I stuck it out because, for various reasons, I connect to this book and I love the story. But, to the bitter end I kept wincing at the narration. First- the narrator should be British, as it is based primarily on British characters who lived as expatriates in India. The narrator should have been able to do Indian accents. Above ALL, the pronunciation of Indian words was atrocious!! While not every Indian word might be familiar, surely a good producer could help with this, and a Hindi-English dictionary, or even Google, would help.
It’s very sad that this production of a wonderful and educational story, by the wonderful story teller MM Kaye, should be so awful to listen to. Audible: please get it reread by someone who can do it justice!!!!

Great story, average reader.
Revisado: 11-14-21
I have read this book many times over 35 years. M M Kaye is such a great story teller and because I too have lived in, and traveled to some of the places that she writes about I know how accurate her descriptions are. I have not been on Zanzibar, but I have read other stories of East Africa and the history of the region, and Trade Wind fits in well to what I know. My one concern was the reader. While I’m sure she would be good for other stories, she did not have good accents for the British or Arab voices. Her accent for the French voice was good. But both her accents and her mispronunciation of certain Arab names and places grated on my ears. But I would listen to it again!
