Cilka is just 16-years-old when she is taken to Auschwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp in 1942, where the commandant immediately notices how beautiful she is. Forcibly separated from the other women prisoners, Cilka learns quickly that power, even unwillingly taken, equals survival. The story was good, but so much swearing
Revisado: 08-18-24
The story was good and the author is clear that this is fiction based on true life characters. Absolutely loved the reader!!!! She was excellent and made the story come alive in a beautiful way. Gives you good insight into what it would have been like to be in prison after the war.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

Jinger, along with three of her sisters, wrote a New York Times bestseller about their religious convictions. She believed this level of commitment would guarantee God's blessing, even though in private she felt constant fear that she wasn't measuring up to the high standards demanded of her.

Intriguing … loved it!!!
Revisado: 03-23-23
This is the second time I have read this book and I loved it just as much as the first time. The relationship and longings that Marcus and Hadassah have keep you hooked throughout. Love Marcus’ journey to find God spurred by Hadassah’s quiet strength and peace. Also loved the gifts and true inner beauty that Hadassah possesses. Great story… difficult to put down.

Narrator truly contributes to this riveting read
Revisado: 01-15-21
I am not a huge fan of fiction, but the story and the reader changed my opinion. Excellent read and story line. You have to keep reminding yourself it’s not a true story. The author provides just the right balance of bringing you into the story without boring you with insignificant details. Highly recommend for everyone. Want to read more of this author.

Becoming Elisabeth Elliot

Historia
Elisabeth Elliot was a young missionary in Ecuador when members of a violent Amazonian tribe savagely speared her husband, Jim, and his four colleagues. Incredibly, prayerfully, Elisabeth took her toddler daughter, snakebite kit, Bible, and journal...and lived in the jungle with the stone-age people who killed her husband. In this authorized biography, Ellen Vaughn uses Elisabeth’s private, unpublished journals, and candid interviews with her family and friends, to paint the adventures and misadventures God used to shape one of the most influential women in modern church history.

Very real because of diary inclusion
Revisado: 10-22-20
Love the way Ellen Vaughn writes. She has done an outstanding job of pulling many resources together to be able to write Elizabeth’s biography in an organized way for the reader. To my knowledge although Elizabeth herself wrote several books, none of this was repeated information. It is more “behind the scenes” information and much of Elizabeth’s own thought and feelings as she wrestled through what life brought her way. There were more than a few surprises. Ellen writes in such a way so that every sentence has good meaning and it keeps you coming back for more. I had a hard time putting it down. Can’t wait for the sequel.
