Great read. Did not want to put it down
Revisado: 04-13-21
I loved this. I felt helpless when she felt helpless and related to so much. At one point she describes how the food she can cook now as a single woman is different because of her experience while married, and I felt that so much. The author did such a great job of capturing fear and uncertainty and all the conflicting emotions that come with letting go and moving on while also weaving a thriller that kept me wanting more.

I tried to like it
Revisado: 09-04-19
I really tried to like this book. I downloaded it on a whim and within minutes it got religious and I recognized it wasn’t what I was looking for and abandoned it. A couple of weeks later while stuck with nothing to read and no signal to download anything new I saw I had not deleted this from my device so I tried again. I made it about half way (with effort) but I don’t think I can finish. It isn’t relatable and reminded me of the time I had to sit through 4 nights of dinners with a young couple with two toddlers giving me unsolicited parenting advice about my teenagers.
It’s a great concept and she means well. I don’t even mind the “humblebragging” and the religious undertones were definitely there but not so much that I was unable to get past it. She very clearly speaks on not judging anyone based on religion and that bought a bit more respect from me. She mostly just speaks on her faith as it applies to her and the fact that it’s a Christian publication (which I didn’t know initially). But there is no true inspiration or advise or even motivation.
Ultimately I requested a refund from Audible and used my credit for something more my style.

Missed the mark for me.
Revisado: 08-02-18
I am a huge Dane and Bones fan, so I was quite disappointed in this edition.
I felt like the back story of the artifacts, the source or origin of their mystical powers, how the prehistoric monster was guided to guard the treasure generation after generation, and especially the secret society and their motivations were almost completely overlooked.
I read this series for what it is, a fun predictable adventure series with familiar characters who always prevail, and I don't except a ton of depth from each book, but I feel like this one really missed the mark for me and only left me vaguely aware of what was really going on.
I actually enjoyed the character of Grizzly and although I haven't encountered him in any of the other books, I hope he pops up again. He was the perfect level of "douche" and made me laugh.

When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

I struggled to finish this book
Revisado: 05-23-18
The book description really gives away the "twist" or at least nudges you in the right direction. Any additional twists that came after that were just fluff. I was disappointed in this story.
Even suspecting that I had a good idea of what I was NOT supposed to assume, I still saw the interest in tell the story in that perspective. It could have been a great tool and if used properly could have made this book much better. instead it seems like someone was desperately trying to be shocking and lost site of writing a story that made sense.

Makes you think...
Revisado: 05-11-18
I have enjoyed other titles by the author so I never doubted I would enjoy this one as well, but I did not realize how much.
The different perspectives from the memebers in the different relationships was definitely something I recognized from some of her other books, and probably one of my favorite things about her work.
What really impacted me the most about this book was Alice looking at her life with fresh eyes.
I wondered to myself what 10 year ago me would think of today me... of the way my life is now. I wonder if the younger me would agree with me when I complain about kids sitting on the back of the sofa, or if she would hear me and roll her eyes.
I have always heard that when you are upset, ask yourself if it is something that will matter to you in 5 years. This book gave me a sneak peak at how I might would look at it in 10....

Great for anyone new to self improvement reading
Revisado: 05-11-18
Wake up early and go to the gym/run/exercise pretty much sums up alot of this book, BUT I don't say that as a negative thing.
I enjoyed the personal recounts from people and why this works for them.
For me, the emphasis on why certain things don't end up working had way more impactthan all the advice on the things that the book claims do work.
'There will always be a reason to not go to the gym at 4pm, and it will always be a good one.' was probably the most enfluentual line I read.
I found the narration to be pleasant and well paced. the book was a nice reasonable length. There were not 3 starting chapters explaining to me WHY I should read the book I am already trying to read. And most importantly there was not a single sales pitch for a website, blog, time managment retreat/seminar or other books.
I am new to self improvement style reading, but I took more from this than I ever imagined and it made me less hesitant to venture out further in the category.

Historia
Grace Stanton’s life as a rising media star and beloved lifestyle blogger takes a surprising turn when she catches her husband cheating and torpedoes his pricey sports car straight into the family swimming pool. Grace suddenly finds herself locked out of her palatial home, checking account, and even the blog she has worked so hard to develop in her signature style. Moving in with her widowed mother, who owns and lives above a rundown beach bar called The Sandbox, is less than ideal.

Cute story with realistic characters.
Revisado: 05-11-18
I enjoyed this book for the most part. I did find that every chapter or so was like tuning in to a weekly program with a "recap", such as reading a detailed two way phone converstaion, only to have one of the members of the phone call then relay the entire conversation to someone else in detail.
I had both a paper copy and the audible copy which I swapped back and forth between. I liked the narrator's natural speaking voice, but when speaking for Grace, it seemed to make the character sound more like a teenage girl rather than a early middle age woman. I also thought Wyatt and Bo's voice sounded alot like Bart Simpson (young and old) which I didn't exactly love, but still make me smile everytime I noticed.
Overall I really enjoyed the characters and the realistic circumstances some of them faced, such as financial hardships and depression that can result from divorce. It was a refreshing contrast to the over dramatic soap opera style divorces you often see in entertainment.
I definitley recomend this book for an entertaining light hearted read.

I don't start books without finishing....but this one almost tested my strength.
Revisado: 04-22-16
So many red herrings.... So little closure.
How am I supposed to mourn the loss or disappearance of a character that was never introduced beyond his name.
And false leads are one thing, but this wasn't intriguing or suspenseful. It was a poorly thought out, long run on sentence.
So much was reliant on secrets that were being kept from the police, apparently for no other reason than to not allow the story to be drawn out further.
Poor construction...BOOM.... btw.....I'm a karate black belt...of course you readers already knew that despite having never been mentioned before and playing very little role in the plot.
Worst of all, why spend an entire chapter recalling a piece of history in detail, to then immediately follow it with an entire chapter relaying the EXACT same details to another character.

I got this book for my teenagers, but I am hooked
Revisado: 04-07-16
I got this book to play during longer vehicle rides with my teenage son and preteen daughter. It's the only thing that keeps the arguments over music, or breathing, at bay after a while.
In the past, I have misjudged a book or audiobook as "age appropriate" on occasion, so I had been waiting a while to start it for them. A few days ago between the ending of my own book, and my next credit, I decided to scout out a few chapters before I started playing it for the kids. I was hooked immediately. The story is written well, very visually descriptive, but not in the way that drones on wasting time just to make sure you only "see" things the way the author saw them.
It took me a little time to get accustomed to the narrator's young voice (I have 5 children, so I naturally drown out kid voices as a form of self preservation). After a few chapters the voice grew on me and I was able to appreciate the subtle changes between characters and accents, without it sounding ridiculous or forced.
I've always been a sci-fi fantasy reader in both adult and young adult categories , but I don't think I have ever read anything surrounding mermaids. The world created in this story was a refreshing change and a nice new perspective for me.
I am looking forward to the rest of the series and doubt I'll be waiting on kids to catch up.
