Historia
A long line had formed for the standing-room-only section of the Woffington Theatre. London’s favorite musical comedy of the past two years was finishing its run at the end of the week. Suddenly, the line began to move, forming a wedge before the open doors as hopeful theatergoers nudged their way forward. But one man, his head sunk down upon his chest, slowly sank to his knees and then, still more slowly, keeled over on his face. Thinking he had fainted, a spectator moved to help, but recoiled in horror from what lay before him.

Twister, Anyone?!
Revisado: 01-13-23
If you want a story with incredible yet logical twists and turns, exciting police chases, and thrilling psychology, this is the book for you!! For me, the final twist wasn’t quite as satisfying as I had hoped, but it certainly tied it all up together well enough to convince Inspector Grant.

Historia
Literary sherry parties were not Alan Grant's cup of tea. But when the Scotland Yard Inspector arrived to pick up actress Marta Hallard for dinner, he was struck by the handsome young American photographer, Leslie Searle. Author Lavinia Fitch was sure her guest "must have been something very wicked in ancient Greece," and the art colony at Salcott St. Mary would have agreed. Yet Grant heard nothing more of Searle until the news of his disappearance. Had Searle drowned by accident or could he have been murdered by one of his young women admirers?

Ahead of its time
Revisado: 12-25-22
An excellent story that was probably considered quite avant-garde when it was originally published, and lovely, evocative language. This narrator has a lovely voice, quite easy to listen to and enjoy. Not quite enough variation in voices for my tastes, however, as sometimes I ended up confused over which character had said which thing in back-and-forth dialogue.

Historia
Ernest Hemingway said, “All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn". One hundred years after its author’s death, this classic remains remarkably modern and poignantly relevant. In this new edition, Elijah Wood reads Huck in a youthful voice that may be the closest interpretation to Twain’s original intent. His performance captures the excitement and confusion of adolescence and adventure.

Excellent Listening
Revisado: 12-21-22
We listened to this on Audible, partially because it’s a Classic and partially because we enjoyed Tom Sawyer so much. This reader was excellent and the story much as I recalled it from my childhood, Furthermore, it provided many, many talking points to us as I listened with my children.

Disco Detective
Revisado: 04-01-21
It is highly unusual to arrive at book #12 in a series and enjoy reading that one more than any of the previous titles! But that is precisely what has happened to me. If you enjoy a good murder mystery with romance brewing around the edges, and always feel like you want a little bit more after the actual mystery is solved… You have found a perfect read for yourself! Being from the USA, I listen to this series exclusively on Audible because I enjoy hearing the accents, and recommend it if you are not an owner of such accents.

Suffering from bald patches thanks to a hair conditioner spiked with depilatory cream - supplied by the murderess in her last investigation - Agatha escapes to the coastal resort of Wyckhadden to allow her crowning glory to recover in privacy. A local witch provides her with hair tonic and Agatha’s lost locks begin to grow - but then the witch is found bludgeoned to death. Great Story, Odd Recording
Revisado: 03-25-21
I listened to this on Audible. The story and voice were both excellent. Well-developed and very well-read and voiced. There were many very odd pauses in the recording, however, where it seemed like two takes weren’t spliced closely enough together. Old-fashioned terms, perhaps, but it really was disconcerting at times.

Enjoyable Quiet Read
Revisado: 01-06-21
This was a listen full of what I assume are genuine details from wealthy England in the 1920s. It was a little disappointing that there was so much build up to the mystery and then a simple, very-few-embellishments resolution. The buildup was worth it, though, and I intend to read and listen to more in this series. This narrator did a nice job and was a pleasant voice in my ear throughout this audiobook.

Who was that masked woman? That was the question plaguing Perry Mason. No one loves a good mystery more than Mason - but being asked to represent a client who is concealing her identity, not to mention the particulars of her case, has given even the legendary legal eagle a case of ruffled feathers. Yet the intriguing cloak-and-dagger tactics have Perry hopelessly hooked. As for the silent siren behind the mask, is she heiress Byrl Gailord or penniless Adelle Hastings?

Revisado: 03-22-20
I was not sure I would like this because I’ve loved Mrs. Piggle-Wiggle SO much from such a tender age. I enjoyed it, however, and I appreciate that some ‘new-age’ family issues* are addressed in this one. Well-written, pithy, And fun!
