Historia
This is the most distinguished novel that has come out of South Africa in the 20th century, and it is one of the most important novels of the modern era. Cry, the Beloved Country is in some ways a sad book; it is an indictment of a social system that drives native races into resentment and crime; it is a story of Fate, as inevitable, as relentless, as anything of Thomas Hardy's. Beautifully wrought with high poetic compassion, Cry, the Beloved Country is more than just a story, it is a profound experience of the human spirit.

stirring story
Revisado: 12-31-22
I very much enjoyed this story. sometimes I choose a book because I feel like I should read it just because it's recommended or everyone else has read. that's sort of why I chose this book in the beginning. however, I was quickly caught up in the story and it no longer was just because I have to but because I felt swept up in the narrative, I cried in parts, it made me think about different things, and it was a story of sadness but of Hope and also of loving and forgiving those who have hurt us. this was for more than one character.

Historia
A masterpiece of satire, this classic has entertained and enlightened readers the world over with its sly and ironic portrayal of human life and foibles from the vantage point of Screwtape, a highly placed assistant to "Our Father Below". At once wildly comic, deadly serious, and strikingly original, C.S. Lewis gives us the correspondence of the worldly-wise old Devil to his nephew, Wormwood, a novice demon in charge of securing the damnation of an ordinary young man.

fascinating story

my two high School daughters and I read and listened to this book. even though it was written 50 years ago, it is still on point and even seems prophetic of the times we live in. it really got us thinking about different things and hopefully has brought changes to our lives.

Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

A delightful story
Revisado: 09-06-22
This was a wonderful such a wonderful story of overcoming adversity and the beauty of true love. I don't often cry when reading but this book I felt the emotions of the characters so keenly that I sobbed in parts and felt overwhelmingly happy in others. Audible's voice actors were fantastic, as usual. Would highly recommend!

the story was good and kept me listening. I loved how the different threads of two different stories set in 1911 and modern times wove together at the end.

fascinating true story
Revisado: 05-20-22
I really enjoyed this true story of a young college student visiting Soviet Russia in the '80s. especially with the war in Ukraine and studying some of the Cold War currently, this was a fascinating listen. my only criticism is that there was some repetition in the book
