You need to wait for it.
Revisado: 03-10-25
It reads slow. Well, it starts slow. Really slow. Matter of fact I almost returned it. But I’m such a fan of Grisham I hung in there.
It took a while but worth the wait. AND he left it where there really could be a sequel.

Always kept me guessing!
Revisado: 08-26-22
This is by far the very best of Tana French. Yes, I enjoyed all of the Murder Squad books. But this one just has something special. It moves quickly, in ways you don't expect. More like a roller coaster, it takes you up then shoots you down, as you think you've got the whole thing figured out. Kept me guessing until the end.

So in late 1969, when handsome Chase Andrews is found dead, the locals immediately suspect Kya Clark, the so-called Marsh Girl. But Kya is not what they say. Sensitive and intelligent, she has survived for years alone in the marsh that she calls home, finding friends in the gulls and lessons in the sand.

Ease into it, you will become attached
Revisado: 08-05-22
I passed over this book more than a few times. But when the movie came out, and my friends started talking about how good the movie was, and how closely it followed the book, I decided there might be something worth listening to here. So very true.
It took a bit for me to settle into it, as it bounced back and forth in time. Once I got the hang of that, it flowed great. It is definitely worth a listen.
Enjoy!

Underdelivered
Revisado: 06-30-22
Don't go into this expecting the typical James Patterson novel. Matter of fact, don't go into this expecting a true representation of world-class show jumping.
Maybe I'm spoiled by other authors who take deep dives into the subject they set out to write about, and get the majority of facts correct. Even so, this one is so far off base it's not even funny.
Truly this should be marketed as a young adult book, as there is absolutely nothing remotely similar to the books penned by Mr. Patterson. Nothing. I was disappointed by that of course. But not nearly as disappointed as I was from the lack of knowledge of the world of show jumping.
It was an ordeal to get thru this reading, the narrator was mind-numbingly boring, the plot far too predictable, and of course the stream of incorrect information. I should have returned it.

Revisado: 06-10-22
Ms. Brown has another winner in the "Sister" series. I just wish she would write them at a faster rate!! The plot in this series is about the current time, so it's far easier to identify, and much more fun!
If you haven't read any part of this series it's time to give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

Way too much
Revisado: 05-30-22
This wasn't a case I was familiar with, so I was excited to listen to it. Just way too much info that wasn't necessary. Really, this could have been an 8 or 9-hour listen easy.
The young lady doing the reading was ok but could not do voices, so all of them more or less sounded the same.
Way too much repetition as well.
Worth the listen, maybe, if you are a very patient person.

Historia
Franki Amato is in Venice to celebrate her best friend’s Christmas Eve nuptials. She’s looking forward to a relaxing break from the PI grind and a romantic gondola ride with her Casanova. But when a chef goes belly-up after making violet risotto for the reception, her holiday plans start sinking like La Serenissima. Dead set on finding the killer and saving her BFF’s wedding, Franki navigates the city’s streets and canals, which are darker and more twisted than catacomb tunnels, and all while the ghosts of past and present are quite literally haunting her.

Worth it, I think
Revisado: 03-20-22
I have loved all the other Franki Amato books. But this one left me, well, not quite satisfied. There was far too much Italian used, without the translations, and I don't speak that language. The storyline was ok, sure. And the narrator is always great, using all the different voices. But I had to go back and repeat sections, because of the usage of Italian. Just so I would understand what was going on.
