Historia
Born on a forsaken desert planet, Cole Shaw has two options - perish from starvation and disease, or enlist in the New World Republic’s armed forces. He chooses the military. For the first time, he thinks he has a shot at a better life. But survival is not guaranteed. Leading an elite team of mech operators, he is deployed to a frozen planet called Ferrous where dangerous relics of a past war lurk beneath the ice and savage creatures prowl the barren wastelands. Scientists on Ferrous are chasing rumors of godlike technologies buried in the ruins of a long-extinct civilization.

Very good story with great narration.

I enjoyed the story. Even though it was just another military sci fi story, it felt different because of the characters interactions with the sentinels. And of course RC Bray. I’d listen to anything he narrates because I know I would enjoy it.

I thought I’d get tired of the series after a few books but, after 9 books, I’m still enjoying it.

Historia
July 25, 2234: The crew of the Adamura discovers the Anomaly. On the seemingly uninhabited planet Talos VII:a circular pit, 50 kilometers wide. Its curve not of nature, but design. Now, a small team must land and journey on foot across the surface to learn who built the hole and why. But they all carry the burdens of lives carved out on disparate colonies in the cruel cold of space. For some the mission is the dream of the lifetime, for others a risk not worth taking, and for one it is a desperate attempt to find meaning in an uncaring universe.

Very hard to review
Revisado: 10-16-24
Compelling, original story that just leaves more questions than it answers. I was excited to get near the end for some conclusions and answers and was disturbed when it didn’t. At the end you know a lot about the main character but you know almost nothing about the key pieces of the story environment. What was the huge hole? What were the turtles? What happened to the characters, alive and dead? Just too many unanswered questions hurt my overall opinion of the book.

Liked everything but the ending. Hopefully he’s going to finish this because the main characters biggest threat and challenge was left unresolved. Loved the science details and intricate plot.

Historia
From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

Great story and narration
Revisado: 08-03-24
In the last 25 years I’ve done a complete 180 on stories like this. I believed most people were basically good and stories like this with evil and brutal people were gross exaggerations of reality. Not anymore, and Carr does a magnificent job showing the reality of the world today and the kinds of people I see every day in the news. No wonder I’m so paranoid. Got to stop watching the news.

Historia
After eighty years of fragile peace, the Architects are back, wreaking havoc as they consume entire planets. In the past, Originator artifacts—vestiges of a long-vanished civilization—could save a world from annihilation. This time, the Architects have discovered a way to circumvent these protective relics. Suddenly, no planet is safe. Facing impending extinction, the Human Colonies are in turmoil. While some believe a unified front is the only way to stop the Architects, others insist humanity should fight alone.

Too much useless dialogue
Revisado: 07-09-24
I usually can identify and like a character in a book. Not this one. Just a slow moving story with too many characters that add nothing to the story. Narration is okay but I sped it up just to get through it. This shouldn’t have been a trilogy series. The only redeeming characteristic is the overall storyline, which is interesting, which is why I started the third book.

Too far fetched a story to be good.
Revisado: 06-23-24
I got used to snarky Ryan in the Forever series so I thought I might like this book. But silly named gods with sillier voices in another universe that enjoy destroying other universes was a stretch too far. I just couldn’t get in to the story. It was silly in the beginning and just got worse. Don’t think I’ll continue.with the second pack of books.
