Historia
On a flight from London to Boston, Ted Severson meets the stunning and mysterious Lily Kintner. Sharing one too many martinis, the strangers begin to play a game of truth, revealing intimate details about themselves. Ted talks about his marriage that’s going stale and his wife, Miranda, who he’s sure is cheating on him. Ted and his wife were a mismatch from the start - he the rich businessman, she the artistic free spirit - a contrast that once inflamed their passion but has now become a cliché. But their game turns a little darker when Ted jokes that he could kill Miranda....

Not my usual genre, but picked by my book club, and I couldn't stop listening. You think you've got it figured out, and then Wham!! It shoots often another direction. And the ending… Wow!

Historia
April 7, 1944 - This date marks the successful escape of two Slovak prisoners from one of the most heavily-guarded and notorious concentration camps of Nazi Germany. The escapees, Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetzler, fled over 100 miles to be the first to give the graphic and detailed descriptions of the atrocities of Auschwitz. Originally published in the early 1960s, I Escaped from Auschwitz is the striking autobiography of none other than Rudolf Vrba himself. Vrba details his life leading up to, during, and after his escape from his 21-month internment in Auschwitz.

Great story, horrible narration
Revisado: 11-12-23
Wow, just wow. Hard to believe that people can be so incredibly horrible. Couldn't stop listening to this book, it was fantastic. I have to say that the narration was awful though. Narrator would pause in the oddest spots. That really throws the listener off and was very irritating while trying to listen to such a great story.

Count the ' very well's'
Revisado: 05-31-23
I so wanted to like this book, but found it incredibly tedious. Extremely detail oriented, the author went on and on about unimportant things. The captain says very well about 1 million times, and I started to say it along with him, quite predictable. Was not the gripping submarine versus destroyer book I was hoping for.

Totally worth it!
Revisado: 11-15-22
I looked forward to getting stuck in rush-hour traffic just so I could listen to these stories. Expertly written, thrilling, edge of your seat type stuff. You will not be disappointed! I am not a history buff, so I’m not sure how accurate all of the battles are or the submarine lingo, but I thought this series was really fantastic.

Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

Character voices were like robots
Revisado: 08-30-21
The actual storyline, and the narration of the story was fine, but when the narrator did the different voices of the characters it was like Yoda was talking. Made it hard to finish, but I kept on.

Title is deceiving....
Revisado: 07-22-21
This should actually be called Chasing Jeffrey. The content on JE is 10 times more than Ghislaine Maxwell. Vicky Ward goes into extreme detail how JE met, charmed, cheated and controlled the millionaires and billionaires. Maxwell, even though the podcast is named after her, seems to take a back seat to the journalist reporting on JE and all his illegal and on the fringe of illegal doings. It was an interesting listen, but I really wanted to hear about Maxwell's involvement, not JE's scamming.

I wanted to like this book, I really did, but found it incredibly monotonous, and repetitive. The female character mentions her parents death and her sister dying a zillion times. OK, we got it! Her wavery, weepy voice made it hard to continue, but I hung on, hoping it would get better. It didn't. It's just a weird story...she's only 19 years old! I will admit the sex was good, although it only happened in like the last 20 minutes of the story. A very 'meh' listen.

Some girls dream of marrying a prince, but I never imagined I’d be sold to a king. When he forced me to marry him, I cried for love I’d never know. When he locked me away, I cried for the freedom I lost forever. Every other tear I’ve shed is for my soul, because I’m falling for the devil himself.
