Historia
Lucinda Williams’s rise to fame was anything but easy. Raised in a working-class family in the Deep South, she moved from town to town each time her father—a poet, a textbook salesman, a professor, a lover of parties—got a new job, totaling twelve different places by the time she was eighteen. Her mother suffered from severe mental illness and was in and out of hospitals. And when Williams was about a year old, she had to have an emergency tracheotomy—an inauspicious start for a singing career. But she was also born a fighter, and she would develop a voice that has captivated millions.

Love Lucinda
Revisado: 10-06-23
Love Lucinda’s voice and music.
She’s a poet laureate’s daughter and that’s evidenced by her writing.

Historia
Leaving behind friends, family, and life as they know it, the Wards embark on a journey into the Alaskan wilderness that will change them forever. Winds of Skilak traces a young couple’s adventurous move from the suburbs of Ohio to a remote island on ill-tempered Skilak Lake. As Sam and Bonnie adapt to a life without running water, electricity, and telephones, the unforgiving, desolate environment tests their courage early on.

A uck
The worst narrator I ever heard.
I’ve read this book before and in my mind I had an idea of the voice of the book. It was not this voice. The narrator distracts from the book/story by over doing her voice. Stressing her voice or over inflecting? A “valley girl” reading a woodswoman book?

Historia
If you've ever laughed your way through David Sedaris's cheerfully misanthropic stories, you might think you know what you're getting with Calypso. You'd be wrong. When he buys a beach house on the Carolina coast, Sedaris envisions long, relaxing vacations spent playing board games and lounging in the sun with those he loves most. And it's as idyllic as he imagined, except for one tiny, vexing realization: it's impossible to take a vacation from yourself. With Calypso, Sedaris sets his formidable powers of observation - and dark humor - toward middle age and mortality.

What is not to like about David Sedaris?
Revisado: 08-28-18
He is and always has been one of my favorite to read! His stories of his family and childhood are entertaining and real! Whose family has not been there? Most of his accounts of family life are relatable to one’s own.
Keep writing my friend!

Entertaining account by Graham Nash
Revisado: 08-28-18
I love CSN! I grew up with the music and still listen to the music today.
I thought Graham Nash’s first hand account of their lives and of the times were fascinating. I thoroughly enjoyed this book!

Historia
With little more than a run-down Jeep and their newborn baby in tow, author Micah Perks' parents set out in 1963 to build a school and a utopian community in the mountains. The school would become known as a place to send teens with drug addictions and emotional problems, children with whom Micah and her sister would grow up. This complex memoir mixes a moving celebration of the utopian spirit and its desire for community and freedom with a lacerating critique of the consequences of those desires - especially for the children involved.

Unremarkable story
Revisado: 08-28-18
For me I found the story uninteresting.
Her voice and character sounds were difficult to interpret. It was difficult for me to empathize and understand the story being told.
Maybe someone else would enjoy it?
It’s a slow moving story that lacks depth and energy

Historia
Atz Kilcher learned many vital skills while helping his parents carve a homestead out of the Alaskan wilderness: how to work hard, think on his feet, make do, invent, and use what was on hand to accomplish whatever task was in front of him. He also learned how to lie in order to please his often volatile father and put himself in harm's way to protect his mother and younger, weaker members of the family. Much later in life, as Atz began to reflect on his upbringing, seek to understand his father, and heal his emotional scars, he discovered that the work of pioneering the frontier of the soul is an infinitely more difficult task.

My goodness!
I could feel Azt senior’s pain.
He is a wonderful man and storyteller
Such wisdom has come thru ; thru all the abuse he has endured and what a truly hard and difficult lifestyle.
I must say overall the book was repetitive, less laments and more elaboration was my desire, take me further in your story. Let us know more personal stuff about 1st love, 1st book , belief system or spirituality.
Were you there when your 1st child was born? What were your successes? How did you stop feeling bad about yourself and make that enormous step towards kindness and understanding?
Thank you Azt for your wonderful story and SONGS! Love love your music!
Darby
