I like Jana as a performer and actress. I appreciate her sharing her story and the courage it took to put her pain on paper.

LOVED

I truly loved this. Jana’s words regarding self love and growth are those that I needed but wasn’t sure how to vocalize.
Jana, your voice is amazingly soothing to listen to. Please consider being an audiobook narrator.

Powerful
Revisado: 01-25-23
To start out, I’ll say that I almost didn’t listen to this based on reviews saying it’s gross because they’re teenagers dealing with hard things or that it was too hard to listen to or that someone wouldn’t let their child read this.
News flash, IT SHOULD MAKE YOU UNCOMFORTABLE. Stuff like this happens in real life, every single day. It should make you feel certain emotions to read/listen to. It should be hard because IT IS hard.
This book was fantastic. There were happy parts and very low parts. It will probably make you cry and angry at times but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t listen. If anything, listen to make yourself aware of the terrible things some young children and teenagers have to experience. Awareness is knowledge.
5/5 for me.

Historia
When Oakley Nelson loses her older brother, Lucas, to cancer, she thinks she'll never recover. Between her parents' arguing and the battle she's fighting with depression, she feels nothing inside but a hollow emptiness. When Mom suggests they spend a few months in California with Aunt Jo, Oakley isn't sure a change of scenery will alter anything, but she's willing to give it a try.

The end saved it
Revisado: 08-11-22
I loved the overall concept of the story and especially loved listening to Lucas’ letters. However, Oakley was a hard character for me to like. I understand the pain she was going through, but she was still a very selfish girl. Her parents deserved better during such an emotional period of time.
I also gotta say, hearing the narrators gulping and swallowing of spit in between sentences was an ick for me.
I am however glad that I stuck around until the end of listen to Lucas’ and Oakley’s last letters. Overall good story, but the ending definitely saved it.
