Great book Great Reader but...

I love Simon Vance; and this is a wonderful book. However, I have been forever spoiled by listening to it as narrated by Frank Muller. Had I not done so, I would rave about Simon Vance's performance. I love his other narrations. But, listening to Frank Muller perform the Vampire Chronicles sets an unattainable standard. The sublime perfection of Frank Muller's understated yet perfect characterizations is unparalleled. Once heard, it is like getting used to driving a Farrari and then having to drive an old Ford Fairlane to listen to anyone else. Don't get me wrong. I love Simon Vance. But once I had gotten Frank Muller's interpretation into my head for these characters, I could not help making the comparisons. So, unless Audible should one day make those available (and I pray with all my heart that they do as they are out of print and very hard to find, even in libraries), do not seek them out to borrow only. Listening to them would spoil any other readings for you. Enjoy these. You cannot go wrong with these. They are quite well done. However, should you get a chance to not borrow but OWN the Frank Muller readings, so that you can go back to them over and over as you will undoubtably want to; then do not pass Go, do not collect $200, go directly to purchasing them, begging them, or stealing them (well, no, don't steal them; that would ruin the joy). I hope that Audible reads this and tries their hardest to obtain them as they would not only be a wonderful addition to their collection, but would be a priceless step towards completing their collection of the works of perhaps the finest audio narrator of all time, Frank Muller who rises above all others I have heard with the only possible exception of Jim Dale.

Take one of the finest and most warmly whimsical books ever written and couple it with a virtuoso reading and you have "Sweet Thursday", read by Jerry Farden. As with "Cannery Row", Jerry brings each character to life in a way that allows the listener to see them surely as Steinbeck saw them. They spring to life with a flavor and sensory dimension that transcends both the written and spoken genres alone. The listener can see, hear and smell the life at that time during those events at Cannery Row. Surely one of the finest couplings of written works and audio performances to be found here at Audible or indeed anywhere. I cannot recommend this book enough. I have listened to this performance on cassette hundreds of times and worn out the cassettes. Each listen is as fresh as the first. I am delighted to find a digital copy of this timeless performance. You may ask; how can you listen to a BOOK that many times? Well, like an outstanding symphonic performance; each listen allows the ear to catch nuances unheard before and to revisit old favorites yet again. The same can be said here. Give it a listen a few dozen times and see if it is not true with this performance as well. Enjoy!!!!

One's Political slant is obvious from the reviews.

In this book, Mr. Hannity makes a good case for many of the root causes for many of the problems facing both our Nation and our Society. Those who are willingly blind to them, or are participants in them will hate and villify this book. The book is cogent and carefully footnoted. From some of the reviews I can only conclude that the truth apparently does hurt.

Clear and Concise expose' of the Left.

Sean Hannity stands up for the values that formed our Nation and puts the onus on those who would bring down our Nation from within. Few have the courage to label the anti-patriotism practised by the far left for what it really is. A must read for those who want a different view from that foisted upon us by the increasingly left-leaning and anti-patriotic media.
