Good read, great character development, enjoyed the suspense and listening. The narrator was also good, even though I found myself rewinding often due to the British accent ... was still worth it!

I struggled to finish this book and stuck with it hoping it would pick up. It never did. Like some other reviews, I too found it to be trite ... long, drawn out dialogues about nothing, over the top with all the f bombs ... no substance, especially for a memoir.

My review
I thought it was just me until I read this review. I couldn't agree more;

I struggled with this book for a month always stopping at the same point at 10%, bored out of my wits. Thanks to my friend Carrie, I persisted today to ultimately finish this book. Only because I didn’t want a DNF in 2018. Man, what all I read to avoid a DNF!!

Carrie, this is totally for your encouragement…

A slow pace + 3 main characters + life intermingling + hidden secrets = The Visitor

The premise sounds so interesting, unfortunately that’s it. The buck stops here!!

Holly meets Cora, a 70 year old, who offers a room in her house, as Holly seems to be in dire straits. Holly has a past, the story keeps on visiting the past at regular intervals, about Holly’s life in Manchester. Cora has her own hidden secrets. David, a 40 year old neighbor, with some mental health issues is the self-assigned ‘guardian angel‘ of the neighborhood, has cctv to record happenings in the neighborhood, telescope in the bedroom to keep a watch. And the story revolves around them and their issues.

I couldn’t believe that K. L. Slater has written this book, I have liked all her past books. This book bored me totally. So I hopped, skipped, and jumped to read only the main parts. The ending was supposed to be a surprise, but I guessed it long before I reached the ending. The characters were absolutely unlikable, the pace was slower than a snail, and the secrets were as expected. All the characters lived in an illusionary world and ended up in the same manner.

This trend of slow moving pace of writing, slow development of characters should be killed at once, before authors start thinking that’s the way to write thrillers. Uh-huh Webster does not agree too. Readers like me who have been reading for a decades, are going to soon stop reading such thrillers if only the last page thrills. Publishers take note. Change the trend. Giving characters mental health issues and secrets does not make a book psychological thriller.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and publisher, and this is my honest and unbiased opinion.

My rating : 1 stars

I was disappointed after reading "The Couple Next Door", which was excellent. Though it held my attention, the ending was a let down as well.

Though I have admired Kathie Lee ever since her days with Regis Philbin, I still struggled with finishing the book. I think she is a very smart and topical woman/host, and her Christian faith is most inspirational, especially in her book. My struggle was the "name dropping" and her narrating. while listening I tried so hard to hear her natural voice as opposed to an overly dramatic version. There were times I'd think "NOW she sounds like herself, I think I can continue listening!" Unfortunately, I didn't finish the book; however, that doesn't mean I won't go back later on and complete the last 4 or 5 chapters.

"Inside Out" is beautifully written and narrated by Demi Moore. She tells her story in a connected fashion making her life easy to follow as opposed to being all over the place (even though at times her life was). I related to some parts of her book and especially enjoyed her introspections on her upbringing, her movies (in particular, Ghost and Indecent Proposal), mothering her 3 daughters, the night she met Bruce Willis, and her overall raw honesty regarding other times of her life. I loved the epilogue ~ absolutely beautiful and powerful!

Loved this book. Beautifully written and narrated. The author's descriptive passages about grieving and it's process are powerful,
pain-filled, and at the same time beautiful & poetic.

It only gets better with each chapter ... cleverly written & brilliantly narrated. The story makes for an interesting discussion on the human condition.

I struggled getting through it. The book was too long and too many descriptive passages. The last 3 chapters finally captured my interest!
