Good story, odd narration
Revisado: 03-03-25
While I wasn't as bothered by the style of the narrator as some other reviewers are, I did find the late 1800's White Chapel type accent of the killer's speaking voice very strange. Some reviewers said the narration was slow or halting in places. I increased the speed of the book to 1.15, which seemed a good speed to listen.
I noticed that the ratings of later books in this series are higher than the 1st two books. I am willing to invest the time and credits to get to those stories. These series definitely has potential.

Shari Franke’s childhood was a constant battle for survival. Her mother, Ruby Franke, enforced a severe moral code while maintaining a façade of a picture-perfect family for their wildly popular YouTube channel 8 Passengers, which documented the day-to-day life of raising six children for a staggering 2.5 million subscribers. But a darker truth lurked beneath the surface—Ruby’s wholesome online persona masked a more tyrannical parenting style than anyone could have imagined.

Inspiring
Revisado: 02-11-25
I admire Shari Franke so much after listening to this book. This definitely isn't an easy listen, though. That being said, I feel like Shari did an incredible job narrating her book. I can only imagine how difficult a task that was.
I believe this book should be required listening/reading for ALL parents who put their children on social media.
I hope that the terrible tragedy that this family has gone through, will be a inspiration to change the laws about creating family oriented content.

Second time with this series
Revisado: 01-17-25
I am a huge fan of Andrew Taylor's books. I really enjoy the narration by Leighton Pugh. He does a great job at bringing the characters to life and enhancing an fantasticly written story.
I really like the this series, so I thought I would give it a 2nd listen, as a go through my Audible credits very quickly each month.
One thing I am noticing upon this 2nd time listening, is that, unlike most stories I listen to, the main characters in this story are very flawed people. I find that to be an interesting facet to the series, as usually, most main protagonists are somewhat, if not entirely likeable. I find myself becoming irritated with them, as they make certain choices, yet, it does make the story different from most that I listen to. I just thought I would point that out.
I also noticed this in the Lydmouth series, which is a great mystery series set in post WWII England. Another great series if you are into crime solving mysteries.
If you are a fan of historical fiction, Andrew Taylor books along with the Shardlake series by C.J. Sansom, are some of the best I have read.
I like the fact that both authors do not use an obvious and tiresome plot formula, for example, found in the Ken Follet Kingsbridge series. I look forward to enjoying more books from Andrew Taylor, as I have not yet completed listening to all of his works.

Historia
Sixteen hundred years ago Britain left the Roman Empire and swiftly fell into ruin. Grand cities and luxurious villas were deserted and left to crumble, and civil society collapsed into chaos. Into this violent and unstable world came foreign invaders from across the sea, and established themselves as its new masters. The Anglo-Saxons traces the turbulent history of these people across the next six centuries. It explains how their earliest rulers fought relentlessly against each other for glory and supremacy, and then were almost destroyed by the onslaught of the vikings.

Not my favorite
Revisado: 12-03-24
I am glad that the Kingsbridge series has come to an end. While I have really enjoyed the series, I find that Ken Follet seems to use the same exact formula in all of these books. I found it tiresome. There is always a hero trying to save the town in some way, and always an evil lord or other aristocrat who is an absolute asshole to everyone with very little back story as to how they ended up that way. Don't forget, the obligatory forbidden love between two of the main characters.
I also find the that the characters who are involved in a love affair with one another, thinking in their heads, extremely sexual thoughts , even during a horrible crisis, a bit unnatural and forced. I know some enjoy the hot and steamy love scenes in Ken Follet books titillating, however, it feels unnatural to be thinking of how soft someone's breasts are or how hard their manhood is, when in the midst of a life or death situation.
John Lee. While I can appreciate his style of reading, and his ability to do many accents admirable, I find his narration style, like this series,to be played out.
If you aren't seriously invested in the Kingsbridge series, and don't feel the need to hear the final installment, you could easily give this one a miss, and be missing out on very little.

Revisado: 12-03-24
I absolutely love historical fiction. It is my favorite genre.
Earlier this year I listened to The Good Wife of Bath, by Karen Brooks. I love that book so much, I listened to it a 2nd time just recently. I wanted to give another of her books a listen.
I really enjoyed this book, and felt the narrator did a great job. I only have a couple of nit-picky critiques. I found the narrator a tad too dramatic in some scenes. Overall, her performance was wonderful.
As for the story, I found a couple of "love scenes" a bit too sappy. I know that seems picky, but I find
