Historia
Dennis E. Taylor, author of the best-selling Bobiverse trilogy, explores a whole different, darker world in this sci-fi stand-alone. Determined to give his wife and children a better life back home, Ivan Pritchard ventures to the edge of known space to join the crew of the Mad Astra as an asteroid miner. He's prepared for hard work and loneliness—but not the unthinkable. After coming into contact with a mysterious alien substance, Pritchard finds an unwelcome entity sharing his mind, and a disturbing physical transformation taking place.

irrationally paranoid main character!
Revisado: 01-10-23
At this point there are 4 hours and 3 minutes left and it is so hard to keep reading...
I will admit that the military guys are jumping the gun in a way that doesn't quite seem realistic, but it is impossible impossible to not identify with their rationale when the main character takes every opportunity to make himself seem like a scary threat while sharing no information that would make himself seem scientifically interesting or emotionally sympathetic.
it is an entire book where the only plot is what is in most books the awkward boring hard to read misunderstanding of motivation subplots in other books that are badly written.
I guess what I'm saying is you know that one plot that is bad that somehow is in every mediocre book this book is just that plot.
I wish that wasn't the case because the setup is so great the first third of the book you get to know and care about all of the characters the alien technology seems super interesting however the main character and every single one of his actions after being fully converted just makes this an almost impossible slog.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

So enjoyable but so cringe!
Revisado: 10-15-22
Inferna can be so good! It is engaging quick and has great action scenes. There are two moments of legitimate emotion that will make you actually feel, but it also has the two of the worst first chapters I have ever read.
The book can be down right pornographic at times and whether that was a good thing or a bad thing changed throughout the day, but for sure don't listen to it as your cleaning up your classroom after teaching Sunday school(not me 👀).
The book doesn't have a lot of menu action which to me Is a good thing, your results may vary but I felt like it had a good balance of gamy-elements to straight narrative.
o.k. the good the bad and the ugly:
bad: the main character sometimes comes off as aloof or even unlikable especially in his coldness to women. there is a huge problem with exposition dumps at the begining of the book; the title and cover are an odd choice(it would make more sense to either name the book after the main character or limit the characters bonded relationships to just Inferna I. this book) and finally the best girl is locked out of the harrem.
The good: The book is entertaining and leaves you wanting more. This is unfortunately the only book this righter has in the super hero Genera and is also unfortunately the least pornographic (at least from the description) as I would love to read more and will(as a very guilty pleasure) when he comes out with his next book. again snappy combat intresting powers and a very likeable supporting cast is why you should read this book.
The Ugly:
You can feel the author's slipping into this book. There is a weird over focus on the supers being in competition with eachother instead of being trained to work together that seems like a commentary on how the author thinks alpha males shouldn't more than an exploration of what the reality of the situation would be.
similarly the positive framing of capitalist Fudal state the book takes place in is strange and also unrealistic. When crisis happens people work together in communal faction real quick. we don't break down into stratified corporate structures no matter how much an.caps. wish we would.
finally, most uncomfortably the author has for some reason chosen to depict the, "Sorose clan," as some sort of quasi-shady family based cabal puling and he strings of power... As a Jew I find this fairly offensive. Finally the book's only LJBTQ character seems to imply her lesbianism is a choice and is clearly on a course in the story to have sex with the M.C.. This again seems very out of pocket.
In conclusion Inferna is a Very entertaining read with many red-flags but I will be reading at least one more as a guilty pleasure.

Historia
This isn't real life. This isn't even cheese mongering. It's opera - where the music matters, and where an opera house is being terrorised by a man in evening dress with a white mask, lurking in the shadows, occasionally killing people, and, most worryingly, sending little notes, writing maniacal laughter with five exclamation marks. Opera can do that to a man. In such circumstances, life has obviously reached that desperate point where the wrong thing to do has to be the right thing to do.

this one is sadder than most.
Revisado: 06-13-22
this is a melon colly story for everyone but ponder Stibbons nanny ogg and Cassanunder. ... and possibly king Varrance. we learn some sad truths and almost about everyone else and the nursery finally losses his fight for sanity.
it is a very good book and important for the characters of the discworld. we learn a lot about the history of the place and there is no happy ending. We don't even get to a solid answer as to whether the antagonists are really, "the bad guys," in the end but are assured that in the whole of the continuinuinium everything happens somewhere.

Not bad... Questionable moral, uncreative pc
Revisado: 02-27-21
The premise is isekai the intro. is... o.k. the plot is passable but uncreative and leaves a LOT of questions unanswered and possible story directions unexplored. The character appears to be(despite what we are told) an agro murder hobo(and unappreciative) by the end one is left to wonder if the goddess is actually evil as the moral she imparts seems like either sophistry or pure gasslighting.
Finally(and this is a matter of personal taste, your milage may vary), by the end of the book I was very much starved for an other character.

So much better than I remembered!
Revisado: 12-02-17
When an read this book threw the first to me I remember it feeling very rushed. I dont quite know what to I was thinking. upon rereading it I love it. it is certainlyone caressed then changes and what came before it, however this is much less compressed than cold days and toast story and seems to be the beginning of a return to form. Not perhaps the very best Dresden file, but surely amongst the most fun.
