Historia
Originally published in 1778, Evelina is Frances Burney's first and most beloved novel. It was a landmark in the development of the novel of manners and went on to influence such enduringly popular authors as Jane Austen. By turns hilarious and grim, witty and lyrical, the story follows young Evelina as she leaves the seclusion of her country home and enters into late eighteenth-century London society - both its pleasures and its dangers. Life in eighteenth-century England is vividly rendered as Evelina is educated in the ways of the world and, eventually, love.

I could not help myself
Revisado: 11-02-21
I don’t generally prefer books written in the form of letters. Therefore I was disappointed that this book was in that form.
BUT-the story, the writing and the performance were all so good, that I listened anyway. I am extremely glad that I did.
Perfect social commentary with a good love story thrown into the mix. Reminds me some of Jane Austen.
Definitely worth the listen!

Outstanding reader
Revisado: 06-08-21
I read this book and then listened to it within a couple of months of each other. As a result, I was able to appreciate what an outstanding performance the reader gave. Her inflections and often even the way she metered her words made a wonderful book come alive. This definitely exceeded my expectations!

Not my type of book
Revisado: 11-06-20
The story could be entertaining if it was only three chapters long but an entire book is too much. The subject matter is so beyond my ability to even appreciate it.

Not a radio program fan
Revisado: 09-14-20
I have not listened to a radio program version of a novel in a long while so I had forgotten that I dont like radio programs of stories. I imagine as far as they go, this is as good as any since BBC is so trustworthy. I love Dorothy Sayers and Lord Peter Wimsey as much as ever. So my low review only is on account of my personal taste.

This is a decent story especially if you are a runner. It's telling was often convoluted and slow. But it kept my interest enough to want to finish it.

Come with us to an Enchanted Place, a forest where Winnie-the-Pooh lived with Piglet, Rabbit, Owl, Eeyore, Kanga, and Little Roo. The stories are about Christopher Robin and these good companions having wonderful times getting in and out of trouble. It is all very exciting and, really, quite thrilling no matter how young or old you may be. It is painful to try and imagine what the world would be like without them.
