awful from beginning to end
Revisado: 02-05-23
The narration is flat, and lacking any personality what so ever. The book has no real connection to any of the previous ones in the series, and has the most ridiculous plot that for some reason requires this same family to solve a nuclear weapons crisis. None of the characters just like in book 2, seemed to have learned or retained any knowledge of overcoming difficulties from previous books. The last 3 chapters of this audio performance are incredibly confusing because the narrator never changes her voice to sound different for any character. It's the exact same monotone delivery through the whole thing.
Just an awful, awful experience.

Historia
Meg Murry can't help but be worried when her six-year-old brother, Charles Wallace, announces there are dragons in the vegetable garden. He's so bright, and so different from other kids, he's getting bullied at school, and he is also strangely, seriously ill. But Charles Wallace is right about the dragons - actually a friendly entity who has come to help Charles Wallace fight his sickness, and to take Meg and her friend Calvin O'Keefe on a terrifying, wonderful journey into galactic space - where they must battle the force of evil to save Charles Wallace, and themselves.

Boring / Disconnected from First Book
Revisado: 01-14-23
There was no reason to make a sequel. The stories do not connect other than re-using characters. The villainous forces from the first book are completely abandoned. Meg, despite somehow having overcome her insecurities in the first book is right back to having them again.
Still book 2 is better than 3, the whole series goes down the toilet from here with racism against indigenous people and literally forcing a good vs. evil scenario with blue eyes vs. brown eyes.

Historia
Drawing on comprehensive interviews with young men, psychologists, academics, and experts in the field, Boys & Sex dissects so-called locker room talk; how the word "hilarious" robs boys of empathy; pornography as the new sex education; boys’ understanding of hookup culture and consent; and their experience as both victims and perpetrators of sexual violence. By surfacing young men’s experience in all its complexity, Orenstein is able to unravel the hidden truths, hard lessons, and important realities of young male sexuality in today’s world.

Misleading
Revisado: 04-11-20
I found the complete lack of diversity in the different types of masculinity to be an incredibly low blow to men/boys everywhere.
She seems to interview only jocks/athletic types and members of fraternities and then uses their stories to paint a picture about ALL boys and men. I found this to be incredibly misleading or rather she is talking about maybe 25% of people who identify as "masculine men" and not at all representative of us as a complete group.
Her narration is good, the book is easy to follow along, and I think she answers her own objective that she set out to do.
I also think her suggestions on how to help boys/men and to help reduce rape are right on par.
I just was really upset that none of the guys she interviews are relatable to how I grew up or my idea of masculinity at all - nor my perceptions of male sexuality.
I came to this book looking for introspection and found it completely not relatable.

Historia
Environmental devastation and economic chaos have turned America into a land of horrifying depravity. Assault, theft, sexual abuse, slavery, and murder are commonplace. And a zealous, bigoted tyrant has won his way into the White House. Directly opposed is Lauren Olamina, founder of Earthseed - a new faith that teaches "God Is Change". Persecuted for "heathen" beliefs as much as for having a Black female leader, Earthseed's followers face a life-and-death struggle to preserve their vision.

Amazing Story // Very Sad Ending
Revisado: 06-23-19
Just as the Parable of the Sower, was very well told Butler, continues the story towards a climactic and satisfactory conclusion.
This book continues to be told from the perspective of various journal/diary writings from first person points of view of the three most important characters in the series.
Lauren, continues to grow the ACORN community and faces new, and far more extreme hardship than her exodus from California. This book chronicles the events that happen after the Pox, through the death of Lauren and the fate of Earthseed.
The book was very easy to listen to, and the actors they hired to narrate do a wonderful job of expressing emotions, meeting pacing of their readings, and to inject personality (something that can be missing from sci-fi books). As far as the editing goes I do believe there were a couple points where they didn't give sufficient space between tracks for you to breath as one chapter ends, and the next one immediately starts reading. I don't know if this is the recordings fault or the way this is encoded in Audible - but be ready for there to be a noticeable immediate continuation following a chapter. You'll have to hit pause fast if you were just listening chapter to chapter like I was!
The last comment I want to make is that this book does deal with depressing and triggering conditions: specifically, enslavement, rape, and kidnapping. Butler, doesn't go into extreme detail but if you're like me - even the passive retelling of a rape survivor is incredibly emotional so just be aware. Same with enslaving people.
The book also has a very emotional (bitter-sweet) ending to it which simultaneously angered me, and made me understand that the author was trying her hardest to tell a realistic story. I wanted Lauren, to have everything handed to her after enduring decades of persistent violence. I wasn't given a Disney ending but it was satisfactory.
I highly recommend this book and look forward to picking up some of her other works as I had never heard of her before I purchased Parable of the Sower in 2017.

Some Issues With Editing/Download, Decent Story
Revisado: 08-18-13
Any additional comments?
Its the same narrators as before and they both do a good job as always. My problem is more specifically to do with the actual audible/download.
There was a point in the third part in what the audible classifies as chapter 10 where I jumped what must have been a good 30-40 pages worth of content. I can't remember exactly what was happening before the jump, but suddenly it skipped to an action scene where Min was thrown to the ground and Rand started hunting down his Ashaman. I have no idea what happened in between and redownloading the book in normal and higher quality doesn't seem to fix the issue for me. Luckily, I have a hard copy to go to.

Michael Kramer delivers a great performance!
Revisado: 03-18-13
Would you consider the audio edition of The Eye of the World to be better than the print version?
I have not read the print version but I think I don't need to now!
What did you like best about this story?
It's hard to say. I like the idea of loosely mixing elements of eastern religious thinking into a fantasy setting.
The action could have been bigger in the book but I suppose since the main characters are still young this will probably increase in later books.
Overall I loved the tale; the characters are well composed and memorable. Perrin, being my favorite.
What about Kate Reading and Michael Kramer ’s performance did you like?
I was not very fond of Kate Reading's read on it (maybe its because she doesn't get to read much in this audiobook) but Michael Kramer does a wonderful job in delivering dialog. He makes you believe that you are actually hearing the conversation from different characters. I love his voice for Perrin, the Dark One, and Loial. He gives Loial's voice a lot of character; speaking his words slowly to emphasize the importance of just speaking and he gives the character a very deep voice. Perrin, is given a slow voice which at first makes him (as you are intended to believe) seem slow-witted. But as the character progresses you come to learn that he is just thinking more deeply then most people do.
If you have read the book and still think you might enjoy re-reading it... Try this audible for Michael Kramer's voice work alone.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
This may be a minor spoiler but... when Loial, sings to the great oak tree near the end so that it won't be corrupted by the blight.
Any additional comments?
I haven't listened to many audiobooks up to this point; but this has certainly been a hook. It works well for me since I do a lot of driving.
