Historia
Danish journalist Heloise Kaldan is in the middle of a nightmare when she receives the first in a series of cryptic letters from a woman named Anna Kiel. Wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of a young lawyer three years earlier, Anna hasn't been seen since. The police think she's fled the country, until the reporter who originally wrote about the case is found murdered. Has Anna Kiel struck again, or is there more than one killer at large? And why does every clue point directly to Heloise Kaldan?

The story as such is not bad, but the characters lack depth
Revisado: 02-12-25
I am a big fan of Danish crime series like the works of Jussi Adler Olsen, Katrina Engberg and Sissel Jo Gazan. I was looking for a new author. But although the story as such is not bad, I feel the characters lack depth. Their personalities are stereotype, predictable and don’t come to life. That is what keeps me from giving more than 3 stars. I wasn’t overwhelmed by the narrator either.

On the day of Alec Salter’s fiftieth birthday party, his wife, Charlotte, vanishes. Most of the small English village of Glensted is at the party for hours before anyone realizes she is missing. While Alec brushes off her disappearance, their four children—especially fifteen-year-old Etty—grow increasingly anxious as the cold winter hours become days and she doesn’t return. Something terrifying that must not be seen. One glimpse and a person is driven to deadly violence. No one knows what it is or where it came from.Five years after it began, a handful of scattered survivors remain, including Malorie and her two young children. Rambling and flimsy……nothing happens really
Revisado: 09-10-24
If you expect a dystopian book, this is not it. If you expect a well crafted theory of some germ, meteor, alien force destroying life on earth, this is not it. The whole phenomenon that creates a new situation on earth is barely explained in 2 sentences and rather shaky. If you expect 95% of life on earth has died, this is not it. People die 2 or 3 at the time. What the current status of the number of victims or survivors is, is completely left to your own imagination. But worst of all is that nothing really happens. Seven hours into the book and no real encounter has taken place. It only describes how a bunch of strangers behave towards each other. Every now and then new people are introduced whose role is unclear, and whose personalities lack depth and character but for some reason are given an enormous weight. You guessed right, I am not a fan. This doesn’t come close to classics like I am Legend or The Dog Stars. The whole concept of this book is a very flimsy idea, not thought through which results in a very rambling story. Exactly the fact that you are not supposed to see the outside world makes that this book lacks the typical dystopian feeling of a desolated world. This is more a character novel of people behaving in a very strange and bleak situation. Performance, as is often the case, is over dramatic.

Historia
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo introduced us to Scandi noir. Now, welcome to Alexander McCall Smith's world of Scandi blanc... Ulf Varg works in Malmo's Department of Sensitive Crimes. Like all Scandinavian detectives he has his issues. In his case these include his unresolved feelings for his colleague, Anna; his impatience over the seeming incompetence of his irritating colleague Blomquist; and his concerns for the health of his hearing-impaired dog, Marten, the only dog in Sweden (and possibly all Scandinavia) who is able to lip-read (in Swedish).

What a great book, very nice and likeable characters with normal human behavior instead of al those cliche writing about cops with supwr skills. Very well written and a good performance (of course) by Saul. I’m hooked for the entire series

Very predictable, you can spot the killer miles away
Revisado: 07-09-24
This is no nordic noir. It is a rambling story, with a cliché writing style and an over dramatic reading performance. What’s worse, I could spot the killer the moment his character was introduced although Sten tries to blend him in casually it is way too obvious. I would not recommmend this book to anyone

Historia
More than 40 years after it ended, the Vietnam War continues to haunt our country. We still argue over why we were there, whether we could have won, and who was right and wrong in their response to the conflict. When the war divided the country, it created deep political fault lines that continue to divide us today.

Unbelievable, how the mightiest country in the world could let itself be fooled into entering into this war. Almost 50 years later the story is still relevant. It gives a good picture of the specific situation in the 60’s and 70’s. Not America’s finest moment but very well written

Hig survived the flu that killed everyone he knows. His wife is gone, his friends are dead, he lives in the hangar of a small abandoned airport with his dog, his only neighbor a gun-toting misanthrope. In his 1956 Cessna, Hig flies the perimeter of the airfield or sneaks off to the mountains to fish and to pretend that things are the way they used to be. But when a random transmission somehow beams through his radio, the voice ignites a hope deep inside him that a better life exists beyond the airport.
