Historia
Samantha Raymond's life has begun to come apart: her mother is ill, her teenage daughter is increasingly remote, and at fifty-two she finds herself staring into "the Mids"—that hour of supreme wakefulness between three and four in the morning in which women of a certain age suddenly find themselves contemplating motherhood, mortality, and, in this case, the state of our unraveling nation.

Good if you like internal musings
Revisado: 11-02-23
The characters are super introspective and there are long musings about menopause and death. I’m in my 70’s and so these are probably appropriate for my age, but I found it all unappealing and did not relate well to the characters. That’s the reason for my mediocre review. I have a desperate need now to read some romance, mystery or other escapist lit.

Historia
Molly Gray is not like everyone else. She struggles with social skills and misreads the intentions of others. Her gran used to interpret the world for her, codifying it into simple rules that Molly could live by. Since Gran died a few months ago, twenty-five-year-old Molly has been navigating life’s complexities all by herself. No matter—she throws herself with gusto into her work as a hotel maid. Her unique character, along with her obsessive love of cleaning and proper etiquette, make her an ideal fit for the job.

Kept me entertained throughout the story
Revisado: 12-24-22
Ms Prose did a fine job of portraying someone on the spectrum without labeling her. The character Molly was exacting, innocent and had black and white thinking about how the world should be. Yet she surprised me in the end. The twists were unexpected and very enjoyable!
Well done!

Historia
Nestled into the cliffs in southern Italy's Amalfi coast, Positano is an artist's vision, with rows of brightly hued houses perched above the sea and picturesque staircases meandering up and down the hillside. Santina, still a striking woman despite old age and the illness that saps her last strength, is spending her final days at her home, Villa San Vito. The magnificent 18th-century palazzo is very different from the tiny house in which she grew up. And as she decides its fate, she must confront the choices that led her here so long ago.

Stayed with it but wanted it to end sooner
Revisado: 12-10-21
I kept hoping for this book to be over. I was impatient for something to happen and annoyed by all of the characters who had secrets and withheld information. I got tired of the endless details of the garden and food. I was never moved to tears, or felt much for any of the characters.

An entertaining story that falls apart at the end
Revisado: 02-08-21
I enjoyed the love story but the ending seemed disjointed and hard to follow. Perhaps if there had been more description of the realms, or if I had read the book with a map?

Historia
Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now 15 and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears.

A good story with a predictable secret
Revisado: 08-26-20
Overall I liked this story. Midway through I guessed the secret and sometimes felt annoyed that it took Alice so long to guess. Some of the romantic scenes seemed overly long. I never considered not listening til the end, and I enjoyed the relationship of Alice and her family members which was more nuanced and interesting than her grandmother and family in Poland.
