Would you consider the audio edition of Selections from the Writings of Cicero to be better than the print version?

yes

What other book might you compare Selections from the Writings of Cicero to and why?

I don't compare Cicero, who would want to do that?

What didn’t you like about Robertson Dean’s performance?

Can't pronounce Latin, doesn't understand what Cicero was talking about. This is a not a particularly good translation

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yawn.

Any additional comments?

I suppose we should be thankful for any Cicero. Next time get a reader who understands Cicero. The last section of the audio book, Scipio's Dream, should have been left out..........it was not Cicero at his finest.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Only to people who are interested in the how we got into the stupid, foolish and
preventable Sub Prime crisis.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Meltdown?

There are many. Barney Frank's statement that the Sub Prime crisis was entirely
the fault of Wall Street is one of the funniest stories. But there are many examples of Federal buffoonery in the book.

Would you be willing to try another one of Alan Sklar’s performances?

NO!!
Terrible reader. He sounds like he was going on moralist crusade.
It was hard to listen to the book with all his righteous indignation.

The book should be rerecorded with a decent reader.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Many moments.

Any additional comments?

This is a great one. If you love economics, get it.

Would you consider the audio edition of Caesar's Legion to be better than the print version?

No, you get to savor the writing and info slowing and deliberately than when it's read to you.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Julius Caesar, of course.

Have you listened to any of Stuart Langton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is my first reading by S. Langston. He did a great job although he butchered the Latin words.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I loved every bit of it.

Any additional comments?

This is first ever book of a Roman legion. Tons of great fun and enjoyment.

Would you listen to Endgame again? Why?

I will listen to it several more times.
This is a brilliant assessment of our current problems
which the national media does not understand.

What was the most compelling aspect of this narrative?

The author's logic and conclusions are undeniable. This is not a doom and gloom book, although what we will face in this decade is gloomy. This work is both elegant and brilliant.

What about Sean Pratt’s performance did you like?

This was an ok reading, not great, not bad. The reader makes a concerted job to do a good reading. A better adaption of the book is preferred.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, unless you have all day. Listen to this is 45 minutes chunks of time. This is an incredible amount to absorb. I work in Financial Services and I have to listen to some passages more than once.

Any additional comments?

This is a must for anyone who is concerned about where our country is headed, what will happen to us in the next decade, how we got in the mess we are in now and how to get out of it.

This is 5 star writing.

Plutarch -- Still Awesome

Total
4 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 08-03-11

This is an old translation that was somewhat modernized. Would have been far better to start fresh with a 21st century translation. At times this translation is stiff and vague. The reader sounds way too elderly in a few places. However, most of the time the reader is fine. Any Plutarch is better than none at all and I give this 4 Stars for my great love of Plutarch (even though he stop moralizing). I'm thankful to have this but would be happier if more modern translation came out with a better reader. Driving 300-500 miles a week for my job, I'll easily listen to this in it's entirety 7 times. This is the only complete Plutarch audio book I know. This is a great supplement to reading Plutarch and allows the listener an opportunity to 'view' this material from a different perspective. There's just so much historical information that listening can really aid in comprehending Plutarch's Lives.

Interesting book with boring reader

Total
3 out of 5 stars

Revisado: 01-05-10

This book starts out very slow but gets interesting. The author has valid points from his scholarship. Unfortunately, the monotone voice of the Mel Foster makes it tedious to listen to this audio book. It's a struggle just to listen to a good book with a boring reader. I enjoyed the book despite the reader. This is a good audio book if you love Roman history, otherwise, other audio books might be more enjoyable.
