I am an avid Austen lover, and that love expands to do many adaptations. This may very well become a new favorite. Lizzie, while incredible, never felt like a relatable heroine for me. As the family screw up, it's hard to relate to a woman where everything turns up in her favor so well. Lydia, shunned by family, friends, and society after one teenage mistake is so much more real and more relatable. And this story of Mrs. Wickham, her tenacity, her resourcefulness, and her redemption was uplifting and moving, and she felt like someone I'd love to have tea with any day of the week.

I sincerely hope this story becomes a movie, because if it does, I'll be first in line to see it. ❤️

The first book in the set, actually about Daisy Dawkins, was pretty good. A little tropey but not bad since it wasn't too long, wrapped up decently, and the PPT holes weren't too big that they couldn't be ignored.

The next three books in the set are totally unrelated and follow a house flipping couple as they try to figure out who murdered the children of the home's original owners. Not a bad premise, but it shouldn't take three books to tell the story; this isn't Tolkien. A lot of suspension of disbelief is needed. A LOT.

When I'm nearly at the end of book two and there's still no resolution (they've only *just* concluded there was foul play??), I'm going to give up. The main character needs to be smacked as she is plagued with Scooby Doo logic, the ghost has endless tantrums that alternate between bodily harm and grand displays, invading dreams, and can somehow become tangible enough to sell a house and sign paperwork???? I don't know if the writer knows just hope many hours are spent in the office signing 10,000 papers to buy/sell a house, but oy.

I lived haunted house stories, but I give up.

Alienating and uncomfortable. Religious rambling

Do you feel inspired by random stationery with biblical scriptures on it? Do you love psalm of the day calendars? Do you feel motivated by rambling preachers who can't get to the point and get so lost in bible quotes that they forget to actually say anything helpful?? If yes, you'll like this and you may get something out of it. If not, please don't waste your credit on it; I'm very unhappy that I can't return the book or exchange it for something less preachy. It feels about as deep as a getting card that can't think of anything to say other than a Bible quote and expect that to be helpful.

I was hoping as the chapters wore on he'd ease up on the Sunday school lectures and actually get around to useful life coaching advice that would be both practical and useful, but it felt like if he didn't have a Bible verse or analogy every other paragraph that he was worried that you'd forget that he was a preacher. I don't know how effective he is as a life coach; maybe he's only a life coach for Christians and your extremely religious aunt and uncle who don't believe in psychology but they're willing to listen to a peacher talk about it. But it made it feel very alienating and uncomfortable with a lot of eye rolling.

if I could return the book I would.

I hate giving up on books, especially since I did enjoy Horrorstör, but omg. In the first chapter alone there were so many nostalgic 80s references that I could almost smell the Aquanet. The story seems so desperate to remind you that is set in the 80s and that, outside of it being the 80s, these little girls have no real personalities to speak of. Abbey is just as whiny and complainy as Amy in Horrorstör, and might as well be the child version of the same character. Gretchen is equally bland, her only life attribute being that she's friends with Abbey. In fact that's the only thing you hear about, other than it being the 80s, over and over and over. The actual plot of possession and exorcism takes place in high school, so naturally the story starts off where any sensible story would: 10th birthday. And goes from there, detailing almost every day and weekend of them as children and middle schoolers. Several chapters in and we're STILL not arriving at any sight of the actual plot -just more exposition! By the way, did you know this book is like totally set in the 80s??

This was a fun, campy horror story, akin to what I would have read back when I was a young teenager thinking that 23 year olds were cool and had their lives together. It reminds me a lot of the old Fear Street and Christopher Pike novels I used to devour as a kid, and I did enjoy this title quite a bit!

The story is flavored with satire (yay!) and the protagonist is pretty relatable to most people on some level, though much of the story I found myself wanting to smack her. The Orsk advertisements at the start of chapters were a riot.

There were a few weaker points in the tale, but overall it was a pretty entertaining story and I may look into this author's other books.

A charity glance at the reviews shows a good handful that complain to the slowness and give up; be patient. A good horror sorry never reveals everything right away. The stories told by the hotel guests serve a purpose, and deeper into the story the tense relationship between the Hotel Clerk and The Red Haired Girl becomes more impressive. I had a few guesses about certain aspects of the end, but I certainly hadn't guessed correctly about the clerk.

At first the narrator's tone seems droll, but this is intentional. But the whole story being narrated from first person present tense and fine so well is a very rare treat in modern writing! Well done.

I used to get Goosebumps in the mail every month when I was a kid, and I'd finish them in a weekend. I devoured RL Stine books when I was young - Goosebumps, Ghosts of Fear Street, Fear Street... So I was pretty excited for this. But listening to it I just couldn't get into the story enough to finish it. I was bored, honestly. Maybe it's meant for younger readers/listeners?

There's nothing like the excitement of planning a baby with your partner to get your need for information and to-do's in gear (at least, if you're a Type A personality). Knowing the great reputation for this book's sequel, What to Expect When You're Expecting, I figured this would be the endless fountain of the information every uterus-owning person planning on a baby would want and need to know. What I got was a textbook, read by someone whose tone is less gal-pal and more slightly condescending nurse with bad attempts at humor and slightly sexist jokes. It's all a bit eyeroll-inducing. The first few chapters are all things anyone could guess at without even trying, followed by information that comes up after a quick Google search. "Planning a baby? Eat healthy, get your weight where the doctors tell you it should be, and stop drinking, smoking, or taking recreational drugs." That's literally the summary of the first third of the book, without the condescending tone.

The audiobook might have been better if you knew easily what sections you could skip, or if the narrator's tone weren't the same up-down pitch that sounds like the lady at the office who is fake-nice. It doesn't sound natural or conversational at all, but rather like someone who is the audio version of a motivational poster. I downloaded this on the first of the month and still haven't finished listening to it - it's that much of a chore.

The rest of the book does have some good information, but honestly would be more useful as a tangible book that you can take a highlighter to and just notate the stuff that's relevant to you personally. It's also still information that you can just as easily Google or ask your GP/Nurse Prac. Also, if you have anxiety, this might not be a good book since every symptom of conception and pregnancy is summarized as "It could be pregnancy, PMS, or -insert horrible medical thing here.-" Almost everything just says to ask your doctor. Um, thanks?

Find the book used cheap at Half Price Books and just mark up what you need with a highlighter, and save your monthly credit for something more entertaining.
