Historia
Two teenagers, a Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot, meet at a taverna on the island they both call home. In the taverna, hidden beneath garlands of garlic, chili peppers and creeping honeysuckle, Kostas and Defne grow in their forbidden love for each other. A fig tree stretches through a cavity in the roof, and this tree bears witness to their hushed, happy meetings and eventually, to their silent, surreptitious departures. The tree is there when war breaks out, when the capital is reduced to ashes and rubble, and when the teenagers vanish.

Besutiful
Revisado: 11-29-24
What a gorgeous multi layered book. The narration is stunning and could not match simply by reading the book. If I could pick an example of a book that is elevated by being read by narrators this is the one. To the two narrators thank you for the lovely poetry that springs from voices.

Not one of her best at all
Revisado: 06-14-24
Disappointing which is not what I expect from Ruth Ware as she is one of my favorites. A bit of a labored plat that has to strain mightily to make sure the plot and characters make sense. She doesn’t always succeed. Fortunately the amazing Imogen Church narrated as always. But even her talent can’t make it all together.

Too much detail the whole way through
Revisado: 05-24-24
Omg. Please already. Too much minute self centered detail all the way through. All the other people cam-oared to Barbara pale in comparison even if they had stellar careers without having ever met Babd. I just couldn’t freaking take it anymore.

You will love this. Same author similar approach to the story. Be forewarned if this is an issue that this is a short story so you won’t be surprised at the price vs the shirt length. I love the aurora writing so was just very happy to hear her writing.

A huge yawn
Revisado: 01-20-24
I am so sorry I fell for the reviews of the book. So superficial. Nothing Michelle Williams could do to make this palatable to a person with a brain. Even someone who enjoys gossip. Just lame. Sorry I bought it.

During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of 30-something friends from Oxford meets to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students 10 years ago. For this vacation, they’ve chosen an idyllic and isolated estate in the Scottish Highlands - the perfect place to get away and unwind by themselves. They arrive on December 30, just before a historic blizzard seals the lodge off from the outside world. Two days later, on New Year’s Day, one of them is dead.

Disappointing Ruth Ware
Revisado: 10-27-23
I am a big Ruth Ware fan but that’s s by far one of her more inferior works. I knew the guilty party from almost the beginning. The book just stretched on and on for no reason. It is only saved by one of my favorite narrators Imogen Church. God bless hee, she makes anything worthwhile. Nonetheless I know Ms. Ware can do much better.
