Historia
When the luxurious overnight passenger train from Calais to the Riviera, known as the Blue Train, arrives in Nice, a guard goes into the compartment of American heiress, Ruth Kettering and attempts to wake her. Unfortunately, she will never wake up, as she is dead, having been killed by a heavy blow to her head, disfiguring her almost beyond recognition. What is more, her precious ruby, known as the 'Heart of Fire', is missing. The prime suspect is Ruth’s estranged husband, but detective Hercule Poirot, who also just happens to be a passenger on the train, is not convinced.

excellent narrator

I loved the narrator, he was incredible, doing American English, different British dialects, English with a French accent etc. Hopefully he will narrate more Poirot!

Too much snark, not enough sense
Revisado: 01-19-25
This will be one of the few books I have to abandon. it starts out quite interesting, with a mystery that spans millennia. But then too many inconstencies are stacking up. Why is no one taking any pictures of the artifact, for instance? Nobody thought to ask a language expert when seeing the markings and just accepted the word of one scientist from a different field saying it's just scribble? And seriously, you couldn't cram the tablet into your waistband instead of leaving it behind?
But mostly, I was annoyed by the constant snark. It's fun, if it's done right, but here it's just so over the top. And it's useless dialogue, just filler, because ultimately, there really isn't all that much to the story apart from the initial mystery.

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet.

Wil Wheaton did a terrific job!
Revisado: 07-08-24
I've read the book a few years ago and during the recent sale I figured it would be nice to listen to it. Wil Wheaton did not disappoint! I was a bit worried, because sometimes with well-known actors, in your mind you just continue to see that actor, not the actual hero of the book, but that didn't happen at all. He even does a really good German accent - not an overdone caricature.
And the story is as fabulous as I remembered it.

For fifty years, she has trained to slay wyrms – but none have appeared since the Nameless One, and the younger generation is starting to question the Priory's purpose. To the north, in the Queendom of Inys, Sabran the Ambitious has married the new King of Hróth, narrowly saving both realms from ruin. Their daughter, Glorian, trails in their shadow – exactly where she wants to be. The dragons of the East have slept for centuries. Dumai has spent her life in a Seiikinese mountain temple, trying to wake the gods from their long slumber.

Fantastic story, 3 narrators great, one annoying
Revisado: 06-16-24
First of all, I loved the book. Excellent world building, great characters, a very satisfying high fantasy book, exploring different nations from a very female perspective.
The four main characters are narrated by four different speakers. Three do an amazing job, but the fourth, for "East", talks in this overdone, breathy, slow voice, trying to make every. single. word. oh. so. full. of. meaning. I almost abandoned the book because of it. Also, the sad part is that she is very capable of speaking normally, as evidenced when she voices different characters (and does a really good job at that actually).

This could have easily been a trilogy, the world is so richly imagined and complex. I was not too impressed with narrator though.

Historia
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

Depressing story
Revisado: 07-05-23
This book was recommended to me as a fun read. I have no idea how anyone could think this is funny. Its a depressing story, full of awful people, being at their worst. I gave up halfway through.
Also, the narrator sounds exactly the same for every person speaking.
