Historia
Geoffrey Lushington, Mayor of Marlow, dies suddenly during a Town Council meeting. When traces of aconite—also known as the queen of poisons—are found in his coffee cup, the police realize he was murdered. But who did it? And why? The police bring Judith, Suzie and Becks in to investigate as Civilian Advisors right from the start, so they have free rein to interview suspects and follow the evidence to their heart’s content, which is perfect because Judith has no time for rules and standard procedure.

Not as good
Revisado: 09-09-24
A let down after the first two books in this series. The story is weak, the characters are trite and some fat-shaming thrown in.
I really like the character of Judith but she is reduced to a caricature of an older woman. She makes baffling choices as do the other women.
The character of Becks is absolutely absurd.
Also there are a lot of anachronisms in this book too that just took me right out of the story.
Disappointing overall

Slow but lovely
Revisado: 08-30-24
Light on mystery and awfully slow at times however the domestic scenes are wonderful. Still worth a listen. Also I liked the awakening of Daniel’s romantic life - I hope it continues.

Oof no thanks
Revisado: 12-30-23
What starts out with a compelling incident never materializes into anything more. If you enjoy body shaming, casual misogyny and whiny middle-aged men, this is the book for you.
Disappointing. I’ve read all of Ian Moore’s previous books set at the chambre d’hôte in the French countryside and enjoyed them. This is not in the same league.

Disappointing but a good first book
Revisado: 11-22-20
I was really looking forward to this book. Perhaps my expectations were too high. I enjoy Richard Osman on Pointless and House of Games, and thought this would be a natural extension of his humor and wit. Eh not so much
I found it too sentimental. The characters of Donna and Chris were underwhelming and stereotypical. I know there will be more books coming and a movie (though I hope it’s a tv series.) I think with a few tweaks this could be an amazing series.
