Refreshing!
Revisado: 12-13-18
The way this book flows is incredibly relaxing and almost therapeutic. Shawn Saavedra's narration comes across like a campfire tale which fits the cozy, comfortable tone of Rebekah Morris' dialog. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a nice and easy story of faith, hope, and a bit of romance, in a simpler and less complicated era.

Historia
Taking on a new captaincy with the barony means that our captain Scott can now live a life of ease. His drinking will be tolerated, his hangovers ignored, and he will be in charge of the newest, fastest Supra Destroyer in the RIM Confederacy. Life is good for Tanner, who enjoys his new ship and the favors of the Lady St. August, yet the PTSD he still suffers from the thwarted prison escape on Halberd still haunts him. He copes but needs support from loyal friends, and that keeps him going.

Another decent entry in the Rim Confederacy series
Revisado: 12-13-18
This isn't the best in the series but it does bring some unique ideas to the overall story. Pacing was slow but consistent and aside from a bit of a slow start, the book flew by thanks to great narration. I enjoyed Shawn Saavedra's narration quite a bit and was disappointed to see the author switch narrators again with book 5.

Excellent start to a series needing a sequel.
Revisado: 12-13-18
I picked this up on a sale and was immediately skeptical because of the tone and genre, but by the end of the book I was already looking to pick up the next. I was disappointed to find that no sign of a follow-up could be found because the story perfectly sets up further adventures of Jai Lin.
Narration was extremely solid, especially considering the variety of age, character type and gender, and the variety of voices needing to keep straight in the early chapters. I would listen to a second book in the series if the narrator was the same.

Unexpected thriller!
Revisado: 12-13-18
There's a sense of predictability throughout Torture Man, but the narration saves the day. There is a distinct and contrasted cast of characters, and Shawn Saavedra does a tremendous job switching rapidly between them during tense dialogs. I rarely catch myself sitting in the driveway just to finish a chapter but I couldn't 'put this one down'. Finished in three days despite only an hour commute.
I'd highly recommend this audiobook, though I doubt I'd have enjoyed it nearly as much in print.

Historia
In December 2128, the war with the Libra Alliance ended when the Dixie fleet diverted an asteroid into the Libra home world, killing nearly all life there. The collapse of the Libra Alliance created a major power vacuum. Old enemies that had been kept in check by the Alliance soon were once again at war with each other. Navy ships without homes became pirates. The restored League of Planets, now with a strong fleet and army, prepared to incorporate planets that had been part of the Libra Alliance into the league, by force if necessary.

Forgettable space opera but substantial potential
Revisado: 12-13-18
This is far from the worst sci-fi / space opera book I've come across, but there's very little that makes it stand out against the vast, saturated genre. The titular character Captain Short Blade was capably written, but is often lost in the cliché and tropes you'd expect from a generic, grizzled, starship captain.
Narration was great with good, clear delineation between characters and none of the distracting clicks and background noises that seem to plague many audiobooks these days.
