Nothing in this book was truly mind blowing, but it had a lot of good tidbits and reminders. Good to listen to, keeps your attitude and ambition up.
Glad I listened!

Overall, I thought it was an interesting book on the Cattle years, and the rise and fall of the industry. I’ve listened to a ton on the west, but little on the cattle industry alone.
Parts of the book broke up into mini biographies.
What I didn’t like was some of the personal opinions and shadow of political correctness/woke thoughts.
The author was almost apologetic that Teddy Roosevelt was an avid hunter. Citing it was before Darwin’s evolution theory, just odd and very college campus feeling. He also went on a little tangent on Owen Wister, and speculated where his views on women came from.
It’s just strange to be learning about western history, then all of a sudden feel like you’re talking to a Poli-Sci major at a state school.

I did appreciate him quoting one of the Time Life “The Old West” books. He certainly took his research seriously.

Very well done biography. At no point did I feel like I was needing to slog through the boring stuff to get to the real story.
I learned a lot, and took away some great leadership points.
Listening to this was time well spent.

What is fascinating book, centered around one of the most intriguing true stories I’ve heard in American history. Outside of just the life and Times of Jack Henson, this book was very informative on the Civil War, southern life, and the variety of different slave/master relationships.
What a clever and skillful marksman. I appreciate his love and passion for his community and family.

I was expecting/hoping for a history of Hawaii based off the title. It’s really more an autobiography by Queen Liliu’okalani.
While there is some me interesting info about the take-over or theft of Hawaii; you do have to wade through a lot of personal fluff.

I did walk away with a great amount of respect for Queen Liliuokalani. She seems like a wise and strong women who truly cared for her land and people. She seems like a very genuine Christian as well. Very much a class act, and a very gifted singer and composer.
To be honest though, some chapters were a pretty dull listen in anticipation of the theft of Hawaii.
Glad I listened, but wouldn’t recommend it if you don’t have a great love for or interest in Hawaii. I have both, and miss it dearly.

This book starts out great, then gets very boring, then finishes on a interesting note. I had High Hopes a couple chapters in. I particularly liked that he did a little bit of a deep dive on beaver themselves. Soon after it gets very heavy on information, feeling almost academic. He trudged through a lot of facts, then it gets quite interesting again with the mountain men.
I’m glad I powered through the full chapters, as I got some very interesting nuggets, but certain chapters were a bit of a chore.

Before reading this book I saw Alex Honnold as somewhat of a pretentious blowhard that tries to act nonchalant.
My expectations were low, and I was actually pleasantly surprised. Pretty insightful book, with some interesting first person accounts.
I did internally roll my eyes when the topic moved to climate change, but I at least appreciate him not having double standards.
When you’re as talented as Alex, and have the ability to inspire the human race, you put up with the cost of documenting your stories.
I still don’t see Alex as incredibly genuine, but did enjoy his story, and the majority of his writing.
What a mentally and physically special individual who had pushed rockclimbing and the idea of what is possible to new heights.

These audio books aren’t the longest (best value), but man, do they keep you on the edge of your seat. I also feel I learn a lot listening.

Extremely sad, extremely powerful, extremely important. Some parts of this book are incredibly difficult to listen to. Unthinkable atrocities were committed against the people of Nanking. These inconvenient truth of history are vital in personal education.
You learn a lot about human nature, and human potential for both evil and kindness.
There is also a very interesting parallel that is touched: The women impregnated from Japanese soldiers then committed infanticide against the innocent children that were born out of the traumatic Japanese rape.
I’m thankful for this book, and that The story has finally been told.

The books claims to be a biography on Coyotes. While there certainly is some of that, there’s also a lot of emotion, self praise by the author, and condescension.
I was really hoping this would be solely informational on the Coyote. It’s more of a work by a Coyote activist.
Nonetheless, some interesting info spread throughout.
