I can normally see a twist coming in a book, but this one caught me off guard. Fabulous read

Historia
Quinn Alexander has committed an unthinkable crime. To avoid spending her life in prison, Quinn makes a run for it. She leaves behind her home, her job, and her family. She grabs her passport and heads for the northern border before the police can discover what she's done. But when an unexpected snowstorm forces her off the road, Quinn must take refuge at the broken-down, isolated Baxter Motel. The handsome and kindly owner, Nick Baxter, is only too happy to offer her a cheap room for the night. Unfortunately, the Baxter Motel isn't the quiet safe haven it seemed to be.

Great story
Revisado: 11-27-24
Loved the story. Very well written. I couldn’t get into it as much as I wanted to, because the narrator’s voice reminded me way too much of Marge Simpson, but the story itself was great.

Historia
Father John controls everything inside The Fence. And Father John likes rules. Especially about never talking to Outsiders. Because Father John knows the truth. He knows what is right, and what is wrong. He knows what is coming. Moonbeam is starting to doubt, though. She's starting to see the lies behind Father John's words. Then a fire engulfs life as she knew it, and Moonbeam is forced outside The Fence into a world she does not recognize.

Great book
Revisado: 10-17-24
Loved the ending. Cried a few times as everything wrapped up. I thought it started rather slow, but not drudge through slow. I really liked how it flipped back and forth between before and after the fire, giving a clear view of what it was like to be Moonbeam both in her current mentality and before her world burned. I agree with another review that “the voice in the back of my head” became repetitive and a bit excessive, but I never got schizophrenic vibes, just a need for a change of wording. Overall great story and quick read.

Heart wrenching
Revisado: 10-05-23
There are no words for this book. To praise it does it no justice. It is the most humanizing piece of holocaust literature I’ve ever read. The horror and terror is so raw, and the delivery so dry and emotionless. It exemplifies the lasting effects of the trauma better than anything I’ve consumed before.
