Historia
In the 18th and early 19th centuries, a Native American empire rose to dominate the fiercely contested lands of the American Southwest, the southern Great Plains, and northern Mexico. This powerful empire, built by the Comanche Indians, eclipsed its various European rivals in military prowess, political prestige, economic power, commercial reach, and cultural influence. Yet, until now, the Comanche empire has gone unrecognized in American history. This compelling and original book uncovers the lost story of the Comanches.

Great information for those with time to decode.
Revisado: 10-23-24
I got this book to listen to as the next in a series of books I have on Commanches and other tribes. This one is a challenge. I find myself having to pause and decode things such as this chapter 3 quote: "...the dazzling equestrian maneuvers and fearsome guerrilla attacks that fired the contemporary imagination were simply an application of overwhelming economic and demographic power made available by adaptive fluency." Sure, the reader can pause and really get into what all that means and it's pretty cool (once in a while). But, the energy required to do it over and over again is draining.

Historia
Crossing the Grand Canyon rim to rim is considered by many hikers and runners to be one of the greatest “bucket-list” achievements. Thousands make the pilgrimage each year to experience the joy of journeying across the Canyon's great expanse. Anyone who descends into the canyon should take time to learn about the history of the trails they use.

Choppy and no PDF
Revisado: 06-28-24
It’s nice to hear the words of some of the early explorers of the canyon, but at times it sounds as though I’m hearing the caption under a photo. Because there is no PDF included, there are no photos to attach with the story. There’s not even a map of the area. The story is very choppy and topics are not coalesced into a cohesive story. It sounds more like someone reading an outline. Maybe the hard copy is better.
