Not unabridged
Revisado: 06-07-23
It says at the beginning of the recording that it is unabridged. It isn’t. It’s missing the last 2 chapters as othered have said. The story is wonderful and the narrator is okay. Where are the last two chapters?

The female voices are distractingly bad. I listened to the entire story hoping it would get better. It didn't.

Historia
Belinda and Harriet Bede live together in a small English village. Shy, sensible Belinda has been secretly in love with Henry Hoccleve - the poetry-spouting, married archdeacon of their church - for 30 years. Belinda's much more confident, forthright younger sister Harriet, meanwhile, is ardently pursued by Count Ricardo Bianco. Although she has turned down every marriageable man who proposes, Harriet still welcomes any new curate with dinner parties and flirtatious conversation. And one of the newest arrivals, the reverend Edgar Donne, has everyone talking.

Narrator is distracting
Revisado: 01-14-22
Barbara Pym is my favorite author. It’s a pity the narration isn’t better. The reader has a rather affected style, and what accent she is using seems to change at times, sounding rather Irish at times. At least, to my ears. Also, the editing is poor. There are a few repeated or wrongly read phrases. I’m very familiar with the book, so it’s annoying. I gave a good rating overall, because I love the story.

Historia
The mother of five, Anne never has a dull moment in her home, and, now with a new baby on the way and insufferable Aunt Mary Maria visiting - and wearing out her welcome - her life is full to bursting. Still, Mrs. Doctor can't think of any place she'd rather be than her own beloved Ingleside - that is, until the day she begins to worry that her adored Gilbert doesn't love her anymore. But how could that be? She may be a little older, but she's still the same irrepressible, irreplaceable redhead.

Narrator is terrible
Revisado: 09-24-21
The story is lovely. The narrator is so bad, it’s painful to listen to the story. Seems like lately there are so many series I like, ruined by terrible narrators.

Historia
Every age and social strata has its bad eggs, rule-breakers, and nose-thumbers. As acclaimed popular historian and author of How to Be a Victorian Ruth Goodman reveals in her madcap chronicle, Elizabethan England was particularly rank with troublemakers, from snooty needlers who took aim with a cutting "thee" to lowbrow drunkards with revolting table manners. Goodman draws on advice manuals, court cases, and sermons to offer this colorfully crude portrait of offenses most foul.

Title is the most interesting part
Revisado: 01-15-21
I started this with hope of a rollicking good listen. I’m sorry. Either you’re writing a book for academics or you’re writing for the general public. It was interesting in parts, but in general I found it perfect for setting the sleep timer and nodding off. I’m usually very interested in sociological books about the period. This didn’t cut it.

Disappointed
Revisado: 06-01-19
Very disappointing. This series has never been great, but always fairly entertaining. This is mostly a review of all the previous books with very little new material. The book before this was also short on plot. But, this one is seriously deficient.
The narrator is good.

Explanations of old technologies bogs down the story. The story is too dated to enjoy.
