Fantastic. A great show of what great leadership can be and do. Leading by example and the importance of genuine care for the people you lead.... listen to the book... great stories that help tell his leadership story. Highly recommend. Will be buying a hard copy for notes and reference for my own development.

Lois Gibbs, Luella Kenny, and other mothers loved their neighborhood on the east side of Niagara Falls. It had an elementary school, a playground, and rows of affordable homes. In the spring of 1977, pungent odors began to seep into these little houses, and it didn’t take long for worried mothers to identify the curious scent. It was the sickly-sweet smell of chemicals.

Historia
Navigating poverty, violence, and instability, a young James Plummer had two guiding stars - a genius IQ and a love of science. But a bookish nerd is a soft target, and James faced years of bullying and abuse. As he struggled to survive his childhood in some of the country’s toughest urban neighborhoods in New Orleans, Houston, and LA, and later in the equally poor backwoods of Mississippi, he adopted the persona of “gangsta nerd” - dealing weed in juke joints while winning state science fairs with computer programs that model Einstein’s theory of relativity.

If you ever wondered how some people "made it", this is a book for you. Some parts extremely relatable (I'm a Black and female engineer) and other parts I had to respect because I don't know if I could have overcome some of that. My respect for this man is still strong and maybe even stronger after this book. Hope you take a listen, no matter your race, gender, or career.

The book we should be reading right now
Revisado: 02-12-22
Excellent. I wasn't sure where the book was going to go. Som laughs, but some truths I have seen and experienced myself. His story is unique, but relatable in so many ways as I am also a brown American. Another American story that should be read to appreciate our similarities but also embrace our differences. I hope you take the time to listen to it.

Historia
Guyanese intellectual Walter Rodney emerged as one of the leading thinkers and activists of the anticolonial revolution. In 1980, shortly after founding of the Working People's Alliance in Guyana, the 38-year-old Rodney would be assassinated. In his magnum opus, Rodney incisively argues that grasping "the great divergence" between the West and the rest can only be explained as the exploitation of the latter by the former. This meticulously researched analysis of the repercussions of European colonialism in Africa remains an indispensable study for grasping global inequality today.

Loved this. Well researched and indepth history. I have some many notes on parts of history I was never taught in school. I have so much more to research, but this was a book I should have read/listened to a long time ago. I hope you have the courage to listen and take in this history and it's effect on the present day.

Historia
The world is out of balance. With increasing frequency, we are presented with the inescapable truth that systemic racism and colonial structures are foundational principles to our economies. The $1 trillion philanthropic industry is one example of a system that mirrors oppressive colonial behavior. It’s an industry whose name means “the love for humankind”, yet it does more harm than good.

Historia
The true story of what took place in Donald Trump’s White House during a disastrous 2020 has never before been told in full. What was really going on around the president, as the government failed to contain the coronavirus and over half a million Americans perished? Who was influencing Trump after he refused to concede an election he had clearly lost and spread lies about election fraud? To answer these questions, Phil Rucker and Carol Leonnig reveal a dysfunctional and bumbling presidency’s inner workings in unprecedented, stunning detail.

Overall, an excellent book. A lifelong NYer I have been very familiar with the NYC water system, or so I thought. The fights and loss of homes and whole communities, environmental issues...wow. Only issue I had was with all the mispronounced names! Irked me the whole time...in NYC, Koch rhymes with scotch! Great book though.

Not what I expected
Revisado: 06-18-21
I thought this would be a book about the history of antitrust laws in the US, but it was more of a book on what Amy Klobuchar did and what she thinks would have worked if she had the chance to try out various theories of hers. There were a lot of good historical accounts of trusts and then antitrust laws in the US, but this was basically a book by Amy Klobuchar about Amy Klobuchar with some historical facts and background of antitrust laws and her upbringing and the game of Monopoly.

Historia
Robert Caro's monumental book makes public what few outsiders knew: that Robert Moses was the single most powerful man of his time in the City and in the State of New York. And in telling the Moses story, Caro both opens up to an unprecedented degree the way in which politics really happens—the way things really get done in America's City Halls and Statehouses—and brings to light a bonanza of vital information about such national figures as Alfred E. Smith and Franklin D. Roosevelt (and the genesis of their blood feud), about Fiorello La Guardia, John V. Lindsay and Nelson Rockefeller.
