Historia
Lucy Young is twenty-six and tired. Tired of fetching coffees for senior TV producers, sick of going on disastrous dates, and done with living in a damp flat with roommates who never buy toilet paper. After another disappointing date, Lucy stumbles upon a wishing machine. Pushing a coin into the slot, Lucy closes her eyes and wishes with all her might: Please, let me skip to the good part of my life.

Seemed Ridiculous
Revisado: 09-23-24
The main character was not likable. She was spoiled and ridiculous. I like time travel stories, but with the idea that regardless of what happens characters look at their surroundings with wonder and excitement and not spoiled rotten attitudes. I felt bad for anyone that ever met this character or may have had them in their life.

Wanted the book’s plot to be better. Meaningless. Had to finish it so I was good enough.

Step back in time a bit. The year is 1973, and by all appearances, Monty Atkins has a wonderful life. I finished the book but it was a slog. It is NOT a mystery. No twists. Exactly predictable.

Historia
Brittany K. Barnett was only a law student when she came across the case that would change her life forever - that of Sharanda Jones, single mother, business owner, and, like Brittany, Black daughter of the rural South. A victim of America’s devastating war on drugs, Sharanda had been torn away from her young daughter and was serving a life sentence without parole - for a first-time drug offense.

Riveting Listen, Inspiring, Change Your Mind
Revisado: 11-18-20
My law office read "A Knock at Midnight" in our office book club. I expected to listen to a book about the legal system and social justice and expected it to be fact-based and procedural. I didn't mind that, but boy, was I wrong! This book is a heart-filled story of real people who are owed your time. You won't be able to turn it off! Brittany Barnett weaves together this book in a beautiful way that even after the book is finished, you will be inspired to follow the lives of each real person. Listen to their stories, and learn about their lives. It is a stark look at the United States criminal justice system and much of what these people have experienced is appalling and wrong. Things need to change, but if you are skeptical, start here. Listen. Learn.

Historia
How did Fidel Castro fool the CIA for a generation? Why did Neville Chamberlain think he could trust Adolf Hitler? Why are campus sexual assaults on the rise? Do television sitcoms teach us something about the way we relate to each other that isn't true? While tackling these questions, Malcolm Gladwell was not solely writing a book for the page. He was also producing for the ear. In the audiobook version of Talking to Strangers, you’ll hear the voices of people he interviewed - scientists, criminologists, military psychologists.

The audio clips included made this one of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listen to! Highly recommended.
