Historia
Absurdly logical, mercilessly real, gathering it's own tumultuous momentum for the ultimate brush with commodity training, JR captures the listener in the cacophony of voices that revolves around this young captive of his own myths. The disturbing clarity with which this finished writer captures the ways in which we deal, dissemble, and stumble through our words - through our lives - while the real plans are being made elsewhere makes JR the extraordinary novel that it is.

I mean listen.
The narrator does an outstanding job. The story is uneven at times, and worn. But it's a hoot. Having listened to the whole shebang six times I might be ready to retackle reading it.

Amazon ruined it with ads ZERO STARS
Revisado: 09-15-23
Couldn't tolerate constant interruption by ads. It was several ads per hour. Will never buy another "Only at Amazon" audiobook again, and if I get ads on other audiobooks that'll be the last time I'll use their service.
Secondly, Amazon rated my review as five stars despite me rating it one star. Now I've read from other reviewers that this doesn't even contain the complete work.

Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Historia
To many, Walter Johnson is the greatest pitcher of all time. He was a star second to none from the dawn of the game's modern era through the "Golden Age of Sports" of the Roaring Twenties. The playing career of "The Big Train", as the sportswriters called him, spanned the era of such greats as Cy Young, Babe Ruth, Honus Wagner, Lou Gehrig, and Al Simmons. Johnson knew every President from William Howard Taft to Franklin Roosevelt, and was friends with the likes of Will Rogers and Douglas Fairbanks.

Unlistenable! Read by a computer
Revisado: 09-23-22
Shame on audible for selling audiobooks read by a computer. I couldn't get past the first chapter. I really wanted to hear the story of The Big Train. Instead I guess I'll read it. Watch out for this "Ian Esmo", the computer who has been utilized to "read" several books about baseball.

Historia
In Scoop, surreptitiously dubbed "a newspaper adventure", Waugh flays Fleet Street and the social pastimes of its war correspondants as he tells how William Boot became the star of British super-journalism and how, leaving part of his shirt in the claws of the lovely Katchen, he returned from Ishmaelia to London as the "Daily's Beast's" more accoladed overseas reporter.

Hilarious satire of the British press and society of days gone by. If I could choose only three audio books to have, this would be one, along with J. R. by William Gaddis and, third, Don Quijote.

Historia
The iconic love story of the Middle East, by a 12th-century Persian poet who has been compared to Shakespeare for his subtlety, inventiveness, and dramatic force, Layli and Majnun tells of star-crossed lovers whose union is tragically thwarted by their families and whose passion continues to ripple out across the centuries. Theirs is a love that lasts a lifetime, and in Nezami's immortal telling, erotic longing blends with spiritual self-denial in an allegory of Sufi aspiration, as the amenities of civilization give way to the elemental wilderness.

Great Book
- De Anthony W. en 10-03-22
"Cringeworthy" narration spoils all
Revisado: 05-11-21
I'd like to read the book, and I will. But the narrator who reads the part of Majnun is terrible. He cannot read verse, pausing at every line end... his delivery also seems rushed. I'm surprised a house like Penguin could release such a product with its name on it, but maybe they aren't as committed to quality as previously.
And I know this is personal preference but the other two narrators didn't float my boat either. Everything is wrong with the narration of this classic.
The translation seems pitiful at times, as well.

Historia
P.G. Wodehouse documented the lives of the inimitable Jeeves and Wooster for nearly sixty years, from their first appearance in 1915 ("Extricating Young Gussie") to his final completed novel (Aunts Aren't Gentlemen) in 1974. These two were the finest creations of a novelist widely proclaimed to be the finest comic English writer by critics and fans alike. Now, forty years later, Bertie and Jeeves return in a hilarious affair of mix-ups and mishaps.

not all that great
Revisado: 02-18-21
Performance was great. Story was melodramatic and the characters not that well rounded. I think the main character's voice actor was replaced about 3/4's through the production and that wasn't a great effect either. Could have done without the immature libido of the other main male character.

Historia
