No one as smart as the main character was through out most of the book would have allowed himself to end up a victim at the end.

Would you try another book from John Grisham and/or January LaVoy?

Yes

What could John Grisham have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Fill the story out.

Have you listened to any of January LaVoy’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

OK

Was Camino Island worth the listening time?

Just barely

Any additional comments?

The author depends on too many lucky breaks and coincidences. Who are the couple from Texas who appear at just the right time and then disappear. What happened to the intermediary in Washington? Was he tortured and killed? How did Bruce know that Mercer was a plant as soon as she appeared on the island? Why isn't there more information on the mysterious company that hires Mercer? Too little substance. Too many coincidences. Flat, disappointing ending. I would read Grisham's grocery list, but this book seems too much like a grocery list.

What would have made No Man's Land better?

A cohesive, believable story line.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Another book.

How could the performance have been better?

The female was OK. The male reader made Puller sound like a whiny teenager.

What character would you cut from No Man's Land?

All of them.

Any additional comments?

I have been a Baldacci fan since his first book. I don't believe he wrote this mess. I think he hired a ghost to meet a contractual deadline. The premise about "super soldier" is unbelievable. The story depends on coincidences at every turn. This couldn't have been written by the same guy who wrote The Camel Club series and Wish You Well.

If you could sum up Pacific Glory in three words, what would they be?

Good but lacking

What was one of the most memorable moments of Pacific Glory?

The sinking of the Cruiser off Savo Island

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I have never enjoyed this reader because of the unnecessary histrionics in his narration.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The Battle of Samar.

Any additional comments?

The author nails his surface action scenes, however inaccuracies regarding naval aviation in WWII detract from the book. In the 1930s Annapolis graduates did not go directly to flight training. They were required to do 2 years duty with the fleet first. Douglas SBD dive bombers at Guadalcanal could only carry one 500 or 1000 lb bomb. SBD Duantless dive bombers did not have folding wings That is why there were no SBDs assigned to the CVEs in 1944 . TF 77 (the "Taffies") had only F4F Wildcats and TBM Avengers aboard. Using the correct aircraft would not have effected the story line in any way. There were no "early model Hellcats" assigned to CVEs, only Wildcats. These are nit picks, but for a story so well researched, they are really unforgivable.
