Boring and implausible
Revisado: 08-13-21
Boring and implausible. The characters are not likeable. Certainly not up to Weir's usual standards.

Mostly harmless
Revisado: 07-19-20
if you are struggling with insomnia, this is the book for you. There's almost nothing new here - the same sci-fi tropes - AIs that take over, nano-printers, etc. I could put up with that, there's little territory that hasn't been covered, but it's the writing itself that makes this book so Ambien-esque. No creative word play, no variation in sentence structure, no humor, cliches abandon. Characters are real enough - too real, as in they are as boring as those people you cringe to be alone in an elevator with. if all this were not a big enough iceberg to this Titanic, the narrator is like verbal vanilla ice cream - not bad, not good, meh.

Historia
David Marquet, an experienced Navy officer, was used to giving orders. Marquet acted like any other captain until, one day, he unknowingly gave an impossible order, and his crew tried to follow it anyway. Marquet realized he was leading in a culture of followers, and they were all in danger unless they fundamentally changed the way they did things. Struggling against his own instincts to take control, he instead achieved the vastly more powerful model of giving control.

Great practical leadership advice
Revisado: 08-07-18
David Marquet has excellent advice for any one who wanted to lead a team. I've personally implemented several of his techniques and I can attest that they work. His approach is very pragmatic and methodical.
His performance of his own text definitely breaths life into it. You can tell how excited he is about this. His voice is not your typical deep baritone of other audio readers, but you get used to it after a few minutes.
On the whole, a very well written and useful leadership book.
