Historia
Known by his alias, "Oliver Stone," John Carr is the most wanted man in America. With two pulls of the trigger, the men who destroyed Stone's life and kept him in the shadows were finally silenced. But his freedom comes at a steep price: The assassinations he carried out prompt the highest levels of the U.S. government to unleash a massive manhunt. Behind the scenes, master spy Macklin Hayes is playing a very personal game of cat and mouse. He, more than anyone, wants Stone dead.

Historia
An experimental ASI with a terminal case of curiosity reached out and tampered with the universe in a way that it should not have, and unleashed a torrent of energy we would call magic into our galaxy. Humans, and every other intelligent lifeform for that matter, were ill-prepared, physically and mentally, for such an eventuality. In an effort to save itself, the ASI hastily created something it called the Framework to shape and codify this magical energy, and usher in a new world. A world of classes, levels, and extraordinary power. But also a world of monsters.

Highly sexual plot that blatantly oversteps the boundary from BDSM into straight up sexual assault
Revisado: 01-02-25
Character development is weak with supposed boundaries and moral difficulties disappearing immediately even if they continue to be presented as issues. Writing is decent with some weak transitions. Main character is nearly omniscient and immediately overpowered. Once the story progresses to the boat, the BDSM turns into sexual assault as a means of corporal punishment by the main character. Personal moras on S&M aside, sexual assault in such a positive light pushes the boundary beyond what I believe to be ethical. Unable to finish the book. Do not recommend on an ethical basis.

Historia
In the not-too-distant future, a 21-member crew launches from Earth. Their mission: to establish a temporary colony on Mars. Little do they know that colony will become permanent–and the last stand of the human race. Because, without warning, every single person left on Earth simply...vanishes. Now, a thousand years later, the resources needed to sustain life are running out, and the very existence of the Mars colony is threatened. Humankind has only one option–to return to its home planet.

Decent story, abrupt ending, and challenging performance
Revisado: 09-27-24
The story was pretty good. Unfolded well. The last 30 minutes or so where storylines start to converge gets really confusing. The ending happens very fast with less transition than even the abrupt time jumps throughout the story.
The performance truly is a production. It sounds like a TV show playing in another room. However, the come and go from the microphone and talking over one another makes it very difficult at times to hear if you’re not in a perfectly quiet room. I do prefer some other full cast productions that lend themselves more towards an audio book and less towards and auditory experience.

It is The Campus. Secretly created under the administration of President Jack Ryan, its sole purpose is to eliminate terrorists and those who protect them. Officially, it has no connection to the American government - a necessity in a time when those in power consider themselves above such arcane ideals as loyalty, justice, and right or wrong.

Much too complicated.

Historia
Eight-year-old orphan Beth Harmon is quiet, sullen, and by all appearances unremarkable. That is, until she plays her first game of chess. Her senses grow sharper, her thinking clearer, and for the first time in her life she feels herself fully in control. By the age of 16, she's competing for the US Open championship. But as Beth hones her skills on the professional circuit, the stakes get higher, her isolation grows more frightening, and the thought of escape becomes all the more tempting.

Be ready for a lot of chess talk
Revisado: 06-24-23
Very well told story. Good characters flawed in relatable ways. Story telling was similar to Where the Crawdads Sing, even if the story itself was a little more niche. Most of the book really is about chess, so I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone who doesn’t have an inkling for the game.

Interesting, but slow
Revisado: 02-28-22
Intriguing story, but incredibly slow. Felt kind of like a mildly intriguing news article that ran too long until the actual “events” start taking place. Less than satisfying ending.

Enjoyable, mostly
Revisado: 12-27-21
It is my opinion that any book approaching the 20 hour mark is going to have some slow bits. This one is no exception. The beginning “setup” 6 hours or so is fun as they learn and fail. There are pockets of excitement in the middle, but it’s mostly bureaucracy that doesn’t progress the story. The climax and conclusion move uncharacteristically quickly and are enjoyable, but the ending leaves you a bit frustrated. “I just listened to 20 hours of *setup*?!?” What “comes next” is really the story I inevitably want. This is a 20 hour prequel. Very disappointed in that.
It does deserve its rating of 4 stars in my opinion tho. Good cast and well performed. Very thorough story. Some good humor and varied characters. A lot of good period research.
Unfortunately, I can’t give it a blanket recommendation. It is enjoyable, but it is long.

Vapid, but wildly entertaining
Revisado: 12-06-21
There is no substance to this incredibly unoriginal plot. Yet, the full cast production and chewing-gum story is quite engaging. It is humorous to the right audience - I found myself laughing out loud. Reminiscent of the humor in the animated TV series Archer. If you didn’t enjoy the show, I don’t recommend the book. Otherwise, I highly recommend. Would love to read similar by the author and producers.
