Historia
Prominent military historian Victor Davis Hanson explores the nature of leadership with his usual depth and vivid prose in The Savior Generals, a set of brilliantly executed pocket biographies of five generals (Themistocles, Belisarius, William Tecumseh Sherman, Matthew Ridgway, and David Petraeus) who single-handedly saved their nations from defeat in war. War is rarely a predictable enterprise - it is a mess of luck, chance, and incalculable variables. Today's sure winner can easily become tomorrow's doomed loser.

snatching victory from the jaws of defeat
Revisado: 09-28-24
Hanson's well thought out theme and selection of subjects provoke one to analyze warfare strategies and political assertions. History is a great teacher if those in the present will remember. We usually choose to forget.

welcome change in fiction
Revisado: 12-07-22
Good read that doesn't rely on profanity or sex to tell its tale. I like Creston Mapes more after every book. This one is not part of a series (yet)...so maybe a good entry point for first-time listener or reader

Some claim chemicals leaking from a manufacturing plant are causing the cancer that’s crippling people on the poor side of Trenton City, Ohio. Yet nothing at the plant appears amiss. The problem remains a mystery until reporter Jack Crittendon’s longtime mechanic falls ill. As Jack investigates, he becomes engulfed in a smokescreen of lies, setups, greed, and scandal. The deeper he digs, the more toxic the corruption he uncovers.

I found this book to be more engaging than Left Behind by Jeffy Jenkins and Tim LeHay. The research is displayed with Afterward with extensive notes and references worthy of trained theologian. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.
Usually the author narration falls flat, but she is not bad.

Historia
Because God has made himself known in his word, a commitment to a high view of scripture is of paramount importance. Sadly, more and more people - not only from outside the church, but also from within - are denying the complete truthfulness of God's word. Edited by pastor John MacArthur, this compilation of essays by a host of evangelical pastors, theologians, historians, and biblical scholars contends that the Bible is completely true and without error - a foundational belief for those who claim to honor God and his word.

A romance novel that goes deep
Revisado: 01-28-22
This novel has been made into a movie. I pray the producers treated it well. The author is great at historical fiction, even Biblical histories. Believers should support and root for the movie. The book honestly portrays sexual obuse, prostitution and hypocracy. Also on full display is the stubborn love of the Creator and the offer of the same to everyone.
