No quality control, and makes me fear for my daughters
Revisado: 09-14-23
There are several places where there clearly was supposed to be audio editing, but they just left it. Like he repeated a line, but they just left them both in, and that happened many times. Also, he’s legitimately a bad guy, and these are manipulative techniques that will hurt many women he interacts with. One thing in particular is that he says that if a girl refuses to go back to your place, take her to her place and ask to use the bathroom because that seems innocent. Then pretend you need to leave, but ask for a tour first. Then when you’re close to the bed or couch, kiss her and get on top of her on the bed or couch. That’s very close to rape if you ask me. I think there is a lot of evil in this book.

Historia
In Unmasking Autism, Dr. Devon Price shares their personal experience with masking and blends history, social science research, prescriptions, and personal profiles to tell a story of neurodivergence that has thus far been dominated by those on the outside looking in. For Dr. Price and many others, Autism is a deep source of uniqueness and beauty. Unfortunately, living in a neurotypical world means it can also be a source of incredible alienation and pain.

Sounds like it was written by an angry teenager
Revisado: 04-21-23
The whole book is mostly a rant about how unfairly autistic people and other victim groups are treated. The person reading even sounds like an angry teenager arguing with a parent. As far as I can tell, the only useful thing about it is that there are some groups listed that might be helpful for people. The main message, though, seems to be that autistic people are mistreated and that the world needs to change to accommodate them.

Historia
In the 18th and early 19th centuries, a Native American empire rose to dominate the fiercely contested lands of the American Southwest, the southern Great Plains, and northern Mexico. This powerful empire, built by the Comanche Indians, eclipsed its various European rivals in military prowess, political prestige, economic power, commercial reach, and cultural influence. Yet, until now, the Comanche empire has gone unrecognized in American history. This compelling and original book uncovers the lost story of the Comanches.

Packed with information, exceptionally bad narration
Revisado: 01-22-23
The actual content is good. It’s written like a PhD dissertation in very academic language, with a lot of insightful analysis of the rise and fall of the Comanche empire.
The narration is among the worst I have ever heard from Audible. She clearly didn’t know many of the words, even English words, that she was reading. She also sometimes clearly didn’t understand the flow of sentences but just read them word for word anyway. She also mispronounced a lot of the Spanish. The narration was distracting.

Good message, decent content.
Revisado: 01-10-21
I think the message is true and useful. Some of the research is pretty compelling, whereas a lot of it is probably just correlation. The narration should probably have been fixed. She mispronounced a lot of words.

Worst narration I have ever heard
Revisado: 11-04-20
This book is junk. It sounds like it was translated word for word from another language. The reader is literally the worst one I have heard on any Audible book. He mispronounces simple words and pauses in strange places. It's almost like this book was translated by a computer and then read by a computer.

In this powerful narrative non-fiction debut, the lives of these three characters provide listeners with a vivid and sobering portrait of education in twenty-first-century America. Hope Against Hope works in the same tradition as Random Family and There Are No Children Here to capture the challenges of growing up and learning in a troubled world.

Good story, but not told all that well
Revisado: 06-19-20
I think the stories were probably really compelling stories, but it was easy not to care about the people involved. Also, the narrator doesn't know how to pronounce the words properly. They should have gotten someone from New Orleans to do the reading.

Historia
An American epic of science, politics, race, honor, high society, and the Mississippi River, Rising Tide tells the riveting and nearly forgotten story of the greatest natural disaster this country has ever known, the Mississippi flood of 1927. The river inundated the homes of nearly one million people, helped elect Huey Long governor and made Herbert Hoover president, drove hundreds of thousands of blacks north, and transformed American society and politics forever.

Historia
In the aftermath of World War II, Prussia - a centuries-old state pivotal to Europe's development - ceased to exist. In their eagerness to erase all traces of the Third Reich from the earth, the Allies believed that Prussia, the very embodiment of German militarism, had to be abolished. But as Christopher Clark reveals in this pioneering history, Prussia's legacy is far more complex.

OK as a broad survey
Revisado: 04-17-18
The book covered a lot of time and did not go into much detail. To really understand this story, it probably would have had to give a biography of every one of the great leaders, which would be a 3000 page book.

By the end of on average day in the early 21st century, human beings searching the Internet will amass eight trillion gigabytes of data. This staggering amount of information - unprecedented in history - can tell us a great deal about who we are - the fears, desires, and behaviors that drive us, and the conscious and unconscious decisions we make. From the profound to the mundane, we can gain astonishing knowledge about the human psyche that less than 20 years ago seemed unfathomable.

A little disorganized
Revisado: 03-12-18
There was some interesting stuff here, but I had a few problems with it. The big issue is that it seemed really disorganized. It seems like he wrote some chapters and then just threw them in the book in random order with few links between the topics. My second complaint is that I think there were several times where he drew conclusions that were not justified by the data.
