Historia
Wright Thompson’s family farm in Mississippi is 23 miles from the site of one of the most notorious and consequential killings in American history, yet he had to leave the state for college before he learned the first thing about it. To this day, fundamental truths about the crime are widely unknown, including where it took place and how many people were involved. This is no accident: the cover-up began at once, and it is ongoing.

Remarkable story of such a dark time
Revisado: 03-08-25
I enjoyed learning about the deep history of the Mississippi delta, although also as the unfortunate setting of such an unimaginable tragedy. Those who didn’t stand up for Emmitt at the time of his murder, nor afterwards when the opportunity to hold the guilty accountable, were just as bad as the murderers themselves. As I white woman, I will never understand nor relate to the suffering that black Americans endured years ago. All I can do is learn, and live in such a way that it never happens again.

Heartwarming and wrenching at the same time!
Revisado: 08-01-24
This memoir was so raw and honest! I cried, laughed, was angry at the injustice he felt! Appreciated his heart for the outcast, minority, and his mother. Loved reading this!
