I'm so confused!
Revisado: 03-21-25
I rarely leave poor reviews. I feel that different books are written for different folks and move on. But. But. This book didn't make any sense to me. It was very confusing. I'm assuming maybe if it was originally written for a European audience, it would be different? I don't know. I listened to the whole thing hoping it would tie together but it didn't. Maybe this is better if you read it instead of listening to it?

I'm so obsessed with these books. I keep waiting for one to be formulaic or predictable. They are not. This one was so intense and kept me guessing to the end. Another late night to make sure I finished it!

Historia
When a mysterious figure appears in Three Pines one cold November day, Armand Gamache and the rest of the villagers are at first curious. Then wary. Through rain and sleet, the figure stands unmoving, staring ahead. From the moment its shadow falls over the village, Gamache, now Chief Superintendent of the Sûreté du Québec, suspects the creature has deep roots and a dark purpose. Yet he does nothing. What can he do? Only watch and wait. And hope his mounting fears are not realized.

Wow. Again. Wow.
Revisado: 01-05-25
I rarely write reviews for subsequent books in a series. perhaps the 2nd, never after that. But these books. Louise Penny is a writer so far above the average and, honestly, so far above even great. These characters. The setting. The storyline. Every part. It's just phenomenal. And every book is better than the last. I cannot believe how much I'm personally invested in these books!
The narration is superior as well. We've all known great books that were damaged by subpar performance. As someone who has read several of the books and listened to several, in a rare instance, I prefer the audio because of the narration. He takes a riveting book and makes it sublime.

Really enjoyed this series. The characters are well written and fleshed out. Each book has it's own story with an overarching storyline. Highly recommend!

Not What I Was Expecting
Revisado: 09-17-24
I rarely leave bad reviews but this was just not a great experience. I really didn't like the narrator and that could be part of it. But I spent the first little while wondering if it was the book I'd ordered. There's a certain feel to Dean Koontz and this just wasn't it. I've read most of his books and loved every single one. I'm just shocked at how blah it was. But what do I know? He's a best selling author of a bazillion books.

This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

BEST AUDIBLE SERIES EVER!!!!!
Revisado: 06-04-24
I have enjoyed this series so much. literally laughing so hard that I cry. The mystery part is well done, the story is good, the narrator just knocked it out of the park. Haven't laughed this hard at anything in years. Only downside? I've finished the series so far! This is now the standard that all other audio books will be measured against! Thank to Ms. Vincent!

Best Audio Experience Ever!
Revisado: 06-01-24
I've listened to a lot of audio books. A lot. This series is easily top in the top 3. Ostensibly, these are mysteries. In reality? Mysteries that make me literally laugh so hard that I lose my breath. Tears of laughter are so common that my mascara takes a hit! The mystery part is well written and makes sense. The narrator is the perfect choice. The only downside? I'm almost their with the series. It will be a gray day when I'm done with them. ***There is a lot of language in the books and off- color humor. Normally, I wouldn't listen/read a book with this much, but for some reason, it's well done! Gah. These are the funniest books.

Love the Stories
Revisado: 05-13-24
I read these books several years ago and decided to try the Audible version. Three of the four narrators are fine BUT the 3rd story, the one from Andi's perspective is just awful. Like no. I missed almost the entire story because I couldn't stand the voices. Highly recommend the stories but listen to the 3rd one at the fastest speed to just get through it. (I understand that it must be extraordinarily difficult to narrate. I've never given a bad review for narration before, I don't think. Perhaps, because there were other voices that I've associated with the same characters? I'm sure she's great with other stories).

But two weeks later, Kate’s cousin arrives in town with the news that Kate has gone missing.
