Historia
In The Small and the Mighty, Sharon McMahon proves that the most remarkable Americans are often ordinary people who didn’t make it into the textbooks. Not the presidents, but the telephone operators. Not the aristocrats, but the schoolteachers. Through meticulous research, she discovers history’s unsung characters and brings their rich, riveting stories to light for the first time.

Loved learning about ordinary Americans I’d never heard of and their contributions to history that they couldn’t have known.

Historia
In this exquisite story of family, food, grief, and endurance, Michelle Zauner proves herself far more than a dazzling singer, songwriter, and guitarist. With humor and heart, she tells of growing up one of the few Asian-American kids at her school in Eugene, Oregon; of struggling with her mother's particular high expectations of her; of a painful adolescence; of treasured months spent in her grandmother's tiny apartment in Seoul, where she and her mother would bond, late at night, over heaping plates of food.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. I read the kindle version but really wanted to know how to pronounce words and names. It was even better than the first read. It made me curious about Korean culture and foods and the conflicting feelings she had about it. Her relationship with her mother was relatable and her grief understandable.

Historia
In 2017, a routine network television investigation led to a story only whispered about: one of Hollywood’s most powerful producers was a predator, protected by fear, wealth, and a conspiracy of silence. As Farrow drew closer to the truth, shadowy operatives, from high-priced lawyers to elite war-hardened spies, mounted a secret campaign of intimidation, threatening his career, following his every move, and weaponizing an account of abuse in his own family.

I thought this was very well done although I’m not sure I can ever listen to or watch NBC again! Weinstein and the men like him are truly despicable and I’m so glad Farrow was there to tell the women’s stories.

Historia
Early in her life, Josephine Malone learned the hard way that there was only one person she could love and trust: her grandmother, Lydia Malone. Out of necessity, unconsciously and very successfully, Josephine donned a disguise to keep all others at bay. She led a globetrotting lifestyle on the fringes of the fashion and music elite, but she kept herself distant. While Josephine was trotting the globe, retired boxer Jake Spear was living in the same small town as Lydia.

Excruciatingly dull
Revisado: 09-09-17
What disappointed you about The Will?
I could not stand Josie's nonstop inner narrative about clothes and what other women should be doing with their hair, etc. To be fair, I had to start skipping around Chapter 6 because I could no longer endure the story so maybe the story would have been better if I hadn't. I just couldn't deal with it anymore. Who allows a stranger to call her "babe", who starts giving teenagers advice right after they've met, her inner monologue about kids was beyond obnoxious and the list goes on...
Has The Will turned you off from other books in this genre?
Not necessarily in this genre but most definitely this series. I will not be wasting my money and normally, I quite like Kristen Ashley.
Which character – as performed by Hollis McCarthy – was your favorite?
None. There's nothing wrong with her but she had some really boring characters.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Will?
Pieces of every chapter to make the story less bogged down with stupid details and swearing.

Historia
Nicola Marter was born with a gift. When she touches an object, she sometimes glimpses those who have owned it before. When a woman arrives with a small wooden carving at the gallery Nicola works at, she can see the object’s history and knows that it was named after the Firebird - the mythical creature from an old Russian fable. Compelled to know more, Nicola follows a young girl named Anna who leads her into the past on a quest through the glittering backdrops of the Jacobites and Russian courts, unearthing a tale of love, courage, and redemption.

Loved this book, print and audio
Revisado: 12-20-15
What did you love best about The Firebird?
I liked the follow-up to The Winter Sea. I listened to this several times and probably will again because I get busy when I'm listening and miss important things.
What did you like best about this story?
The history is fascinating and I tend to remember storylines better than a historical essay so I like that she brings the history in but it's not the only thing I'm getting from the story.
What about Katherine Kellgren’s performance did you like?
She does a good job with the voices. That's not easy with all the different accents in this story.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
There were places that had me teary :)
Any additional comments?
I like all of Susanna Kearsley's books so far but my favorites have been The Winter Sea and now this one. Although I also loved Mariana.

Historia
Little else in life is as dangerous as fire jumping. Flying past towering pillars of smoke, parachuting down to the edge of an all-consuming blaze, shoveling and sawing for hours upon hours, days at a time, all to hold the line and push back against the raw power of Mother Nature. But there’s also little else as thrilling - at least to Rowan Tripp. The Missoula smoke jumpers are one of the most exclusive firefighting squads in the nation, and the job is in Rowan’s blood: her father is a legend in the field. She’s been fighting fires since her eighteenth birthday.

Overall a good book
Revisado: 04-17-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Chasing Fire to be better than the print version?
I don't know, I haven't read the print version
Who was your favorite character and why?
I liked most of the characters except the main one. She was childish and hot-tempered and seemed immature for where she has gotten in life. I've known a lot of fire fighters and was surprised at her behavior. I was appalled at her incredible immaturity regarding her dad's relationship. I still liked it overall but if you don't want to hear a lot of detail about firefighting, you won't like it.
I really liked Gull :)
Have you listened to any of Rebecca Lowman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I liked the narrator a lot, actually. She did a good job of distinguishing between voices, she didn't do the overly emotional whining that sometimes narrators do that ruins a story for me.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Not really.

Historia
Tall and thin, twenty-eight-year-old Bronwyn Palmer has become positively gaunt, a ghost of her former self. That self was - and still is - the wife of a rich, handsome executive with an ocean-view house and his own security staff. It was in that house, two years ago, that Bryce Palmer learned Bronwyn was pregnant with their first child. But Bryce’s rage over his impending fatherhood touched off a chain reaction of emotional and physical traumas that wounded them both.

Read don't listen to this book
Revisado: 02-09-15
Would you try another book from Natasha Anders and/or Justine Eyre?
Yes to both but I'd make sure the narrator was narrating a book that her accent fits. Perhaps a regency book or something where it is obvious that someone is foreign.
I find it very wearing when the H and h continue to misunderstand each other for most of the book and act like young children.
What do you think your next listen will be?
I'm not sure.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I can't stand the way she says things like "heppy" aka "happy" and numerous other words. If I had expected an accent this strong because the person was foreign, I could like it better but it detracted for me.
What character would you cut from A Husband's Regret?
None

Not crazy about the narrator in this one
Revisado: 01-14-15
What did you like best about Under the Mistletoe with Me? What did you like least?
Kind of sweet, short book that addresses something that is a real issue for new parents
Would you be willing to try another book from Kristen Proby? Why or why not?
Sure.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Her male voices made me cringe every time. I had no problem with the way she portrayed women but the men, ugh.

Meh... not so great.
Revisado: 08-23-11
This book fell very short of the buildup. I'm not sure what I'd think if I'd read it instead of listened to it. The reader doesn't do a very good job of distinguishing between character's voices so I felt confused constantly. It wasn't a terrible book but it was boring and the ending left me wanting. I wasn't impressed. It was a waste of a credit.
