Historia
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Actually hearing the stories and voices of the victim's and families and LE who worked the cases.

I didn't like that there wasn't more attention to and research into the background of DeAngelo. Also, they could've tried to more specifically tie the crimes to the background data, such as marriage, firing from job. This was very glossed over, imo.

The wild ways the entity messed with the characters, mentally and physically.

The ending was abrupt and left things rather vague. It seemed like a cop out and a lazy way to end it. The sequence of events that were dire as far as a countdown were silly as they could've just switched off the microwave.

compelling monsters and idea.

The kind of ham-handed actions and relationships of the characters. Things like running into the boys "girlfriend" as a mutated human "randomly". There are parts that are too plot convenient in a sort of very obvious way.

Historia
Joe Gere said he died on the afternoon his 12-year-old daughter Brenda disappeared. It was left to Brenda's mother Elaine to sustain her stricken family, search for her missing child, and pressure the authorities for justice. From the first minutes of the investigation, suspicion fell on Michael Kay Green, a steroid-abusing "Mr. Universe" hopeful, but there was no proof of a crime, leaving police and prosecutors stymied. Tips and sightings poured in as lawmen and volunteers combed the Cascades forest.

The writing and narration are so good, I can't stop listening! In the same caliber of novels such as In Cold Blood! I am amazed by the detail and dialogue. I normally just put on a book to fall asleep, but this keeps my attention long into the night. I don't even mind the insomnia!

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic American novel of the Roaring Twenties is beloved by generations of readers and stands as his crowning work. This new audio edition, authorized by the Fitzgerald estate, is narrated by Oscar-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain). Performed by the author and five of Britain's leading actresses, Alan Bennett's tales are full of quirky, insightful detail that bring the characters vividly to life. From Julie Walters' portrayal of an actress seeking fame to Anna Massey's alcoholic vicar's wife, these individuals are linked by their self-delusion, desperation, and vulnerability.

Peek into suprisingly different lives!
Revisado: 03-12-18
Loved the rich tapestry revealed by each sentance of these monolouges. Tiny sparks of recognition noticed in Mr. Bennett's characters, even if by comparison his characters are found more on the extreme side of the personality spectrum to those people we recognize from our lives. Although this distinction may only exist because we aren't privy to the depths of the personalities of those we meet day to day in church or the office or even nextdoor.

Historia
Once every year, Scoutmaster Tim Riggs leads a troop of boys into the Canadian wilderness for a weekend camping trip - a tradition as comforting and reliable as a good ghost story around a roaring bonfre. The boys are a tight-knit crew. There’s Kent, one of the most popular kids in school; Ephraim and Max, also well-liked and easygoing; then there’s Newt the nerd and Shelley the odd duck. For the most part, they all get along and are happy to be there - which makes Scoutmaster Tim’s job a little easier.

The End is Very F ing Nigh
Revisado: 06-10-16
I could not stop listening. Normally I can predict where the story is headed. However, I was disturbed and surprised at the brutality and the humanity of the characters, in a way that challenged my moral understanding of right and wrong. With the recent events around COVID, I thought I knew how the group should react to the problem of the contagion and was horrified when they didn't. Although, I was unnerved that what I thought they needed to do, would've made the thing more unbearable and that it wouldn't have mattered in the end. What I thought the end goal should've been was irrelevant because further isolation would've just destroyed them more psychologically than to try and stay together. I enjoyed the really thoughtful way the author approached the young characters, their back stories, and their interactions when put in unimaginable circumstances with no help from adults. They are complicated characters with attributes we, as adults, can all recognize in ourselves and those around us.

Journalist and writer Monte Francis tells the harrowing story of what eventually led to Wade's capture and reveals why the true scope of his murderous rampage is only now, more than a decade later, coming into view.

Very engaging & well written! Definitely worth it!
Revisado: 06-08-16
You will enjoy this book. It's detailed enough and written in a way that is easy to engage with. The narrator is AWESOME, he does such a great job portraying the words of the various individuals within the story. It is a sad and frustrating topic but there is a satisfaction in having someone put together the facts of the case. Because woven throughout the sickly dark subject matter, there are threads of gray and light as well. Worth the time and money, especially if you enjoy the True Crime topic!

copyright 1986! crazily relevant & even prescient!
Revisado: 05-30-16
This book was published in 1985? That is crazy especially for how it foreshadowed events to come in history, an example being the impetus for suspending the Constitution, which heralded the creation of Gilead. WOW! I recommend reading and staying with this book. It will make you uncomfortable at first but don't let that dissuade you from continuing the journey. My only let down was the abrupt ending and therefore being left without closure. Not that I can think of a better way to end it. I'm glad of the last chapter as a sort of ending from a future that seems to point to an understanding of Gilead as a social experiment gone mad. The fact that past tense is used at least brings some comfort to the reader that this regime didn't last. But of course it couldn't, or could it? That's the scary part. That and of course more...
