Beautifully written. Gives Einstein a quizzical and aloof, yet affectionate quality that will endear the reader to him. Isaacson draws you in in a way that only he can. I'd recommend getting his biography on Davinci if you enjoy this.

This book is like sitting down for coffee with your crazy best friend who's already consumed 10 times the recommended daily amount of coffee. As an anxiety sufferer myself I can appreciate so much that is in this book, Jenny is so relatable. She puts her foot in her mouth and in the process of explaining her social faux pas she readily inserts the other foot complete with her legs all the way up to her vagina. Did the word vagina bother you? If so, you probably shouldn't read this book, or Jenny's other book, or blog, in fact, if vaginas and the mention thereof bother you, avoid Jenny at all costs. Oh, and if words ending in "ING" being pronounced with a k at the end annoys you, Jenny's narration might not be your cup of tea. Ditto if singing the name of each chapter grabs you as odd or unsettling. Me personally, I LOVED every crazy gosh damn minute of this book and replay it often.

At first I found the narration annoying, the author was attempting to almost caricature a woman's voice but as the story rolled on I no longer seemed to notice. Nothing ground breaking or sensational in the story but it was enjoyable nonetheless. I feel for the author, whos disappointment in the shut out from many of his subjects was unwarranted. He told the stories without too much judgement compared to most books of this kind and seemed to feel sorry for many people he met. As an atheist myself I believe that the brainwashing and naivety of his subjects is wrong on so many levels.

Loved every minute of it. Although some stories are hard to believe the author makes the point of staying sceptical in relation to unverified events. Very well researched by an obviously scientific mind, the stories show that we don't need to humanise animals, but rather understand them as they are, from their perspective. I would highly recommend this book.

Would have been better with the accompanying pdf of images mentioned throughout for reference, it becomes hard to follow in some chapters without them

This book had me in stitches! An absolute delight to listen to.
As a sufferer of dermatillomania, adhd, depression and borderline personality, I related will to the authors thoughts. He flight of mind and tangential style is liberally sprinkled with odd humour and TMI or random over share, but that is largely the appeal to me. Highly recommended her first book and am hoping/waiting (not so patiently)for a third! Jenny has become one of my favourite authors.

What did you love best about The Locked Ward?

All of it! The story flows beautifully and is worded and narrated like your best mate is telling you a story with passion and animation.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Locked Ward?

The telling of the suicide attempts. Although a raw subject for myself, it's not at all told in a clinical way, it's raw, but not upsetting. The accent and some of the colourful phrases and slang are excellent.

Which scene was your favorite?

Code brown! The scene painted where a patient uses his bowels to try to escape restraint is hilarious

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh! From a chortle to full belly laugh and sore cheeks. I was thoroughly entertained from start to finish with many of the orderly and patients antics, though told with humour, they aren't mocking.

Any additional comments?

I just love the accent of the narrator/author. I initially thought I'd have to return the book because the very heavy/thick brogue was initially hard to understand but as the story kicked in I plugged on listening and found I not only got used to it, it became easy to understand and ended up adding to my enjoyment of the book.

Couldn't get enough of it, if only it was longer! The narrator did a great job, although I'd have prefered Dr Ramachandran to narrate, I felt as though some of his humour was lost with this narrator. All in all I'd still recommend this book.

A great introduction for anyone new to atheism. I'm normally one to listen to the heavier audio books on atheism and epistemology but Seth (makes it clear that this IS NOT one of those books) is great if you don't want anything too hard to follow. Delivered perfectly as always, his deep soothing tones and lighter subject matter were a joy to listen to. This is a skim over some of both popular and obscure religion's bat s### crazy ideas and beliefs.

Narrator is great, and the content excellent. Steven Pinker never disappoints. You may need a dictionary on hand occasionally though! Literary genius.
