Historia
War and Peace is one of the greatest monuments in world literature. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, it examines the relationship between the individual and the relentless march of history. Here are the universal themes of love and hate, ambition and despair, youth and age, expressed with a swirling vitality which makes the book as accessible today as it was when it was first published in 1869.

Watched the miniseries, then had to get the book.
Revisado: 09-11-19
I watched a miniseries of War and Peace and that introduced me to the characters. I identified so strongly with the character of Pierre that I had to get the book to know his journey in a deeper way. Having seen the miniseries, it was easy to visualize the characters in my mind as I listened to the story. It was one of life's pleasures to get in my car and commute to work and home and listen to the story over a period of a few months.
It is a powerful story and an interesting commentary on the history of the time. I highly recommend this version of the story.

Historia
Why have history's greatest minds - from George Washington to Frederick the Great to Ralph Waldo Emerson along with today's top performers, from Super Bowl-winning football coaches to CEOs and celebrities - embraced the wisdom of the ancient Stoics? Because they realize that the most valuable wisdom is timeless and that philosophy is for living a better life, not a classroom exercise. The Daily Stoic offers a daily devotional of Stoic insights and exercises, featuring all-new translations.

Valuable Principals.
Revisado: 01-14-19
The Stoics had a practical philosophy that is relevant today as it was then. The quotes in this book are expanded upon and help to clarify the ideas behind Stoicism. Excellent narration makes it a joy to listen to.

Historia
Every being lives in his own mental world. His joys and sorrows are the creations of his own mind, and are dependent upon the mind for their existence. In the midst of the world, darkened with many sins and sorrows, in which the majority live, there abides another world, lighted up with shining virtues and unpolluted joy, in which the perfect ones live.

Revisado: 11-30-18
After listening to 'As A Man Thinketh' narrated by Brian Holsopple, I began listening to that book on a daily basis, or any time that I felt like I had lost my way. It has given me a great fondness towards the man, James Allen.
To find a similarly moving book, excellently narrated by Barry J Peterson, has doubled my joy.
James Allen is without a doubt the most practical philosopher I have listened to.

Brought me closer to the mind of the man.
Revisado: 11-30-18
I've read others talking about Carl Jung. I watched tidbits of him talking on YouTube. This book written in the first person put me inside the mind of the man. It was fascinating to go along with him on his journey of the soul.
It is the first book I've read by Jung himself. I think it was a great first book.
The narration was very satisfying. I was drawn into the book by its reading and great meaning was conveyed in the performance.
The story itself is great! His stories of travel in Africa and India were excellent.

One of the most significant books ever written by a head of state, the Meditations are a collection of philosophical thoughts by the Emperor Marcus Aurelius (121 - 180 ce). Covering issues such as duty, forgiveness, brotherhood, strength in adversity and the best way to approach life and death, the Meditations have inspired thinkers, poets and politicians since their first publication more than 500 years ago. Today, the book stands as one of the great guides and companions - a cornerstone of Western thought.
