Historia
After standing at Donald Trump’s side on Election Night, Cliff Sims joined him in the West Wing as special assistant to the president and director of White House message strategy. He soon found himself pulled into the president’s inner circle as a confidante, an errand boy, an advisor, a punching bag, and a friend. This is the story of what it was really like in the West Wing as a member of the president’s team. It's a story of power and palace intrigue, backstabbing and bold victories, as well as painful moral compromises, occasionally with yourself.

A true disappointment. It feels fair to say the author was trying to cash in in a minimal way on the recurring national crisis... much like the way of his religious leader father and grandfather. One can claim that they were a moral compass until the ever-present end of time, but it doesn't make it true, or even good to listen to.

Historia
From his first novel – Less Than Zero – published when he was still a college student – to his most recent – the fierce American Psycho, Bret Easton Ellis has been a powerful and original presence in contemporary literature, whether giving voice to a previously inchoate generation or provoking a controversy that raged throughout the culture. Now he takes a quantum leap forward: an awesome reckoning of the American Century at endgame. In Glamorama, a young man in what is recognizably fashion and celebrity-obsessed Manhattan is gradually, imperceptibly drawn into a shadowy looking-glass of that society, there and in London and Paris, and then finds himself trapped on the other side, in a much darker place where fame and terrorism and family and politics are inextricably linked and sometimes indistinguishable. At once implicated and horror-stricken, his ways of escape blocked at every turn, he ultimately discovers – back on the other, familiar side – that there was no mirror, no escape, no world but this one in which hotels implode and planes fall from the sky.

I have been a huge fan for years and years now, but I didn't have this book.
I love it, as with all his work, pure amazement.

Historia
For well over twenty years, Poe Ballantine traveled America, taking odd jobs, living in small rooms, and wondering the big whys. At age 46, he finally settled with his Mexican immigrant wife in Chadron, Nebraska, where they had a son who was red-flagged as autistic. Poe published four books about his experiences as a wanderer and his observations of America.

Great title; insighful memoir

a scientist and writer adores this book
Revisado: 07-28-18
Brilliant! Chadron seems like the absolute freak town for me, based on a loose model of Twin Peaks. The characters, case, intrigue, and wonderful display of Tom's original use of the English language has shackled me to this case, the people involved, and the unlikely definitive outcome. I am very upset that none of the other author's books is on audible... I drive 3 hours a day and would love another book by Ballantine.

Historia
The year is 1924 and the race to summit the world's highest mountain has been brought to a terrified pause by the shocking disappearance of George Mallory and Sandy Irvine, high on the shoulder of Mt. Everest. By the following year, three climbers - a British poet and veteran of the Great War, a young French Chamonix guide, and an idealistic young American - find a way to take their shot at the top.

Mostly dull... for Simmons
Revisado: 06-04-18
This is a much slower paced and boring book from Simmons that I have read so far. The repetition of names and previously stated facts is maddening. Some phrases immediately give the author away. The author's ego is completely unnecessary and is an impediment to his talent.
