Wasn't sure what to expect as the tale went on. Eventually all is revealed and it's refreshingly twisted. Fun listen.

Unable to finish
Revisado: 03-03-25
This book started off with great promise. Loved the writing style and engaging story-line. As the book progressed more and more flirtation with thoughts of pedophilia I became uncomfortable and about 3 hours in it just become too much - definitely not what I want to listen to. Perhaps the book redeems itself if completed but I cannot imagine how that happens and it was upsetting to listen to. Definitely not form me.

Very convoluted and interesting attempt for answers, have great empathy and compassion for the author.... Really struggled with the production - background sounds constant and too loud, to me totally unnecessary and really detracted from the read.

Historia
Portland is famous for its rain, hipsters, craft beers...and coffee. Sage Caplin has high hopes for her coffee cart, Ground Rules, which she runs with her business partner, Harley - a genius at roasting beans and devising new blends. That's essential in a city where locals have intensely strong opinions about cappuccino versus macchiato - especially in the case of one of Sage's very first customers. Sage finds the man's body in front of her cart, a fatal slash across his neck.

Hard to figure out what the focus of this book was. Mainly endless descriptions of coffee drinks, brews, cocktails.... Kept thinking there would be redemption but sadly not.

Historia
Two little girls stand with their heads bowed in my living room. I’m told they’re my granddaughters. Daisy is nine, and Alice seven. Daisy is the spitting image of her mother. This is the first time I’ve met them since my daughter and I fell out after she married that waste of space, Vince. They’ve come to live with me because their mother — my daughter — was murdered. In her own home while they slept close by. I think Vince killed her. But the police can’t prove it. I’ve always known he was no good. He treated my daughter like dirt. I said he’d cheat on her — but she wouldn’t listen.

An enlightening look at real compassion and mental health and deep friendship!
Revisado: 12-20-24
Not knowing very much about deep mental health issues this was such an eye opener. I've never understood just how real episodes are for the afflicted person.... As a person who is far from family and lives alone I cannot imagine how someone would survive her story. An incredible real, raw story of deep and enduring friendship. You are both such amazing people as is Dave. Beautiful.

Abuse too graphic
Revisado: 11-11-24
Love the writing style and other books by this author, however the sex trafficking abuse was just too graphic and I had to stop listening. A pity as I'm sure the investigation is excellent but the descriptions are too disturbing for me to continue to listen to.
